Really? This is a tired accusation. Tennessee is recruiting well. Deal with it.

I was always under the impression that UT was very dependent on recruiting out of state talent because if they had to rely solely on players from Tenn, then they'd struggle. Therefore, if the Carolina schools, UGA, and Bama/AU hold onto their state players, then UT will find it tough sledding. The only hotbed of talent in that state is Memphis and its closer to 5 SEC schools.

The talent in Tennessee especially in Middle Tennessee is really improving. I've heard alot of people say that Nashville will be a recruiting hotbed in 5-10 years.

The reason is simple: It's Head Coach Butch Jones:

Nashville's football talent is quite a bit better than Memphis.

Butch Jones. He has a lot of the same qualities Bruce Pearl brought -- outreach, energy, and a contagious optimism. One of the first things Pearl did that was so amazing given our history was he reached out to actual UT students and got them excited. Those on campus felt included for once which was an enormous change.

Jones is doing the same thing but on a broader level and he exudes confidence as well as energy. I also think he possesses Pearl's ability to will a win although that is yet to be seen.

Recruits are responding to his energy, the insane level of work he puts in, his optimism, and the chemistry of the staff he's been with for years. Tradition, playing time, and the SEC are huge bonuses but it's the intangible/emotional things recruits have cited most when talking about why they chose Tennessee.

Our recruiting class sucks and we'll never be good again. That's what they'll tell you.

If Tennessee is going to fire every coach after two seasons, they will never be relevant again.

It doesn't matter who they hire as their H.C.

This sounds good to me. Let's make it happen that way.

Good one Cromp...we all know AU has farmers that plant cash crops on the plains so that seed $$ can be harvested.

I honestly think Butch is working his azz off recruiting and is doing what Dooley couldn't....recruit top talent. We will see what happens in two years if the wheels don't come off the results should speak for themselves....its recruiting success that usually start the mo going for a program and look no further than Oxford to see what happens when you ink top talent, the expectations rise and the fans get back on the wagon.

Dooley's average recruiting class for 2011 & 2012 was 3.40 stars.

Butch's average recruiting class right now is 3.43

What has Butch done that Dooley didn't do?

If you're too stupid to see what Tennessee is doing on the recruiting trail, then idk what to say.

All I know is that Butch is bringing VOLS back and he's bringing hell with him.

But seriously, the recruiting class UT is gonna pull this year will be better than anything Dooley had, even the one gift wrapped from Kiffin.
