Ok, well my whole argument is that they didn’t. Until proven wrong, none of them are capable of doing so based on their relative resources. The fact remains that no non-big 6 team is has ever served as a long term foil to a big 6. Tennessee, Auburn, and LSU are the big six teams that Bama plays every year. Take away UT and Auburn (half the time), and more often than not, Bama walks into the SECC. Might lose to a non-big team every once in a while, but nothing consistently.

youre 1 for your last 16 against Bama. its not like you guys are really capable of it either

why? its true. As a gamecock fan it is annoying to hear that college football needs program X to make a comeback. Screw UT and Auburn, id rather see SC get their chance

Haven't you had your chance the past 15 years?

You’re completely missing the point.

Respectfully, no one thinks of South Carolina in the context of this topic.

Y’all maybe stop to ever think that Bamas compete domination of the entire conference for 15 years might have been a little more difficult if their permanent rival had a pulse? And auburn was off/on during that period.

Their biggest rival has won a championship and been to another one so no, it has nothing to do with Tennesse.

During that 15 years a team other than Bama has won the conference 7 times, AU/UF/LSU each have an NC and UGA has 2.

Wtf are you talking about?

Meh, seeing Va tech, Oregon or TCU play for a national title doesn’t do much for me. I’m with Chris on this.

That's the issue...

Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, Oklahoma, Texas; one of those teams will be no higher than 8th in the SEC. Lower if one of the other teams is better.

8th is not "good".

When Jimbo first got to A&M, people said they were "good", because they 'only' lost to LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and Clemson. Well, that's still 7-5, not GOOD.

The chances are about the same at both schools.

I understand what you are saying. SC does deserve a chance. But Tennessee rising isn’t what hurts usc.
Clemson is what keeps holding you down. They get the better recruits and all the glory in South Carolina.
I am a Vols fan but I also pull for you guys. Nice Stadium rowdy fans very loud great facilities etc. I think USC is on the rise you also have the right coach now.
I don’t think any SEC fan other than Kentucky Or Mizzou has a problem with usc.
You beat us soundly last year you also beat Clemson.
When Clemson is good both our teams are bad.

Some teams are always going to be near the top. It’s up to us lesser teams to crawl back up which isn’t easy especially recruiting.

And thats fair. I guess all of everything to say I don't find it unconceivable that a new team can rise up and become a power. Obviously UT can comeback, but at this point its been so long that it would take a lot.

If it came off like I am saying SC deserves a chance, we deserve nothing. IMO no school deserves anything. Which is kind of the crux of it all. The teams that were powers and have fallen off deserve to be good again no more than the SC/Arkansas.

now if youre a school with bad fan support then thats a different topic.

I get that, but chances are Tennessee would not either. And, in fact did not. I mean, I'm not sure what your point is. You can play "What if Tennessee was better?"

Fact is, what if Kentucky, Vandy or somebody else was better? It gives college football no extra cache for UT, Texas, or any other traditionally strong program to dominate.

I'll repeat. People keep arguing they are tired of the same ole teams going to the playoffs, yet you want to make the argument that the same ole teams being good would be better for college football.

My argument is as long as there is good football being played then it is good. I don't care if it is TCU, SMU, Houston, Kentucky or whoever.

quote:

Take away UT and Auburn (half the time), and more often than not, Bama walks into the SECC.
And yet in your previous post you decried Auburn not being any good and Georgia has them as a permanent opponent. So, is Auburn good or not?

quote:

Hey look, Auburn and UF and UT were down while UGA started its greatest run in history. South Carolina, Mizzou, Kentucky, vandy haven't been able to step up. Fancy that.

And yet we win the SEC and playoffs against superior competition. Imagine. Add on that we have played ND, Oregon and Clemson as OCC the last few years and all of a sudden our schedules look much better.

Recruiting isn't as hard for the have nots lately due to NIL and the portal.

This. I think people are putting out their hot takes on the new landscape waaaay too early. It is still in its infancy and the expanded playoff is going to throw a further wrench in everything. Pretty sure the next 5 years are going to be insane and I believe CFB is at its best when chaos reigns.
