Your analysis in this post is good TBH. All I would say is be thankful the SEC took “one foot outside” approach versus what the Big 10 did. The SEC is still the most logically regional power conference, even with the fringe states.

I miss the old game tickets, still have most of my stubs. E-tickets suck.

I think this needs to be reiterated.

When the SEC expanded to 14, as was somewhat inevitable, East Texas made a lot of sense, and I get the Missouri addition. I've said before, I like you weirdos, and the SC/Mizzou game is one that I legit look forward to every year. The Mizzou/UTK game is also fantastic, and wholly unpredictable.

That said, who else would have been a "better" addition in a vacuum, when going to 14? If aTm and Mizzou aren't it, then maybe it should have been VA Tech and either WVU or NC State.

But WVU is a geographic outlier in the worst way. If Morgantown were where Beckley is, I could see the advocacy better. VaTech would have been a great fit, but they're (now) tied to UVA, and they've been in a doldrum since Beamer retired. NC State is a better fit culturally than UNC, but again, they're not close to any other school. Raleigh to Columbia is the closest, and that's what, 4 hours?

The SEC's expansion to 16, while not perfect, still maintains a geographic consistency better than whatever the B1G did, whatever the B12 became, and the ACC is a dadgum mess.

Agreed

I may be getting old, but even with Georgia having historical success, I just don't love college football like I did from 2002-2015ish

Some of you baws are old. Nothing wrong with that, but for many of us the SEC has been the 12 team version most of our lives. I was 4 years old our first season in the conference.

1992, Birmingham, ALABAMA 28 Florida 21. Just in case your mom put you to bed early.

By the way, it had absolutely nothing to do with finding the BEST SEC team, and Miami, our opponent in the Sugar Bowl, had no such test or extra game to play.

Looking at a 1978 lsu schedule. 11 game schedule and a 10 team conference. Why only play 6 conference games? They had 5 nonconference games. Could have played everybody every year.

A&M belongs and fits better than all of these including South Carolina which has always felt weird even though it's very much a southern state. Biased towards Arkansas because of the Boot.

12 of us, I’m including Arky and South Carolina. I’ve enjoyed them both since added and I think we all now consider them canon. Ron Franklin. Verne. Gary. Kentucky vs Vandy on JP sports at 11 AM. Ron Franklin calling an LSU Auburn game on a cold fall evening. Bama still kicking our arse most times. Shaun Alexander going wild. Cocktail party with Verne and Gary absolutely loving it. Sports writers still didn’t respect us. Was a good time. But all good things shall pass. Lots of great games and great players. But most of all great pageantry.

Amen

Look at a map, Einstein. BCS is further north than Austin
