I miss the wishbone and the rivalries. Tiger Stadium -when only an occasional LSU game was on ABC television. Bowl games meant something and every star player played for pride to end the season.

I miss the oranges flying down from the west upper decks and crying the next week after losing to Tulane. I miss the fights between Tulane and Tiger players.

I mainly miss listening to Tiger games on WJBO 1150. I miss Hawthorne and I miss the excitement the Golden Girls gave my loins as a teenager.

The classic bowl games
NYD bowls with the Cotton, Gator & Fiesta early - then Rose - and the Sugar/Orange at night.

example - 1985 season provided quite the chaos. #2 UMiami got bitch slapped by #8 Tennessee in the Sugar - blowing a prime chance to win another MNC that decade - while #3 Oklahoma was beating #1 Penn State convincingly in the Orange - both games unfolding simultaneously.

Switzer suffered his only loss on the season to the Hurricanes in Norman earlier in October, but he won a national title on UMiami's home field on New Year's night.

the CFP is way overproduced by the 4-letter network to the point it's borderline unwatchable. the Capital One 'bowl season' on espn is basically the same production for each game day after day after day - just with different teams. on-air commentary is brutal at best.

CBS, NBC & ABC each had a unique way they televised games and personalities doing commentary to match.

frick that, those were my (and a lot of ours) formative years as cfb fans

The first 3 DiNardo years were fun and Kevin Faulk was tGOAT

2001-present has obviously been a different level but i loved 90s college football as a whole

But I know you don't miss 1970-2000 college football because of the winning traditions of Moo State.

State was good in the 90s and in the mid 70s.

1997 Michigan/Penn State introduction

If this doesn't give you goosebumps, you aren't a college football fan. Those days are long gone and never coming back.

Talking about players being paid: Forget about it. This is college, you're there to get a degree for free already plus myriad other benefits regular paying students would have never imagined.

SMu got the death penalty during this time period.

You want to pretend they didn’t pay players before 2000 go ahead. You’re a fricking a moron, but go ahead

Can only imagine the reaction of some of these fan bases to the bullshite the Ags put up with over the years.

Want to know how I know you weren't alive and old enough to miss watching football from the seventies?

No. They already play you and you are in conference with Miami.

Plus, Florida is in a non-garbage league that Clemson cannot prey upon.

I don't miss the Jefferson Pilot games at all. Although, the Aggies would probably love hearing Dave Baker (or was it Dave Neal) say "big man on big man" about a dozen times a game.

I actually liked having all the Independents. USM, Tulane, Memphis State, etc. would play about 5-6 SEC team each year and were competitive in many of them.

Jeff Bower was a damn good coach and normally had USM very competitive against just about anyone. Of course, USM thought they were better than they really were and chased off Bower for some idiotic reason.

Those were some great times, especially in the 1970s and 1980s. It was a big deal to have your team on Television. At the most a team could be on 3 times a year and in the early 70's there was a two game max (regular season). The tv broadcasts were simpler and their simplicity was nice. No annoying scroller the whole game and just simple graphics. It was neat watching a game and there'd be a male cheerleader holding up a female cheerleader (or something) and ABC would be showing a few scores. A big upset would be brewing and you'd hear Keith Jackson say,"Woo, look at that!"

Lot of neutral site games to primarily in Birmingham,Jackson and to a lesser degree Memphis.

The 10 team league and 6 game SEC schedule through 1987 gave teams the opportunity to play a lot of good non-conference games.

Good times.

That is another thing younger fans miss out on other than a quick trip to the store near halftime. Jack Cristol was awesome as were Cawood Ledford doing UK games, John Ward doing UT games, Paul Eells doing Vandy games (through 77-78), John Ferguson doing LSU games. At night there was a radio "network" called "Pick of Dixie" where a local station could pick up a game played at night--sometimes it'd be Georgia Tech,Tulane or Miami from outside of the SEC.
