I doubt this happens but Finebaum did have really good point on Texas and OU to the SEC.

He basically said that most of the SEC may not want them in the league but it sounds like they both want out of the Big 12 and if the SEC doesn’t take them then someone else will. He made a good point because if you put Texas and OU in the PAC 12 then that league moves to second in the conference rankings overnight. And if they got really crazy and took another team or two from somewhere that’s solid programs then they could make a big push to the front. By doing this deal the SEC locks up number 1 in the conference rankings overnight. And with the playoff expansion this could set up SEC dominance for years to come. Even though most of us may not like the move.

Sec would be better off with Eastern teams.

OU and sip in the pac with late night games won’t have the impact they think

The fear isn't that they'd go to the PAC, it's that they go to the B1G.

That suddenly makes the B1G much more relevant and throws a recruiting lifeline to schools like Nebraska and others.

I mean I guess it comes down to if you want to play these teams every year in the regular season, or some years in the playoffs.

One dominant conference, but (even more) difficult to get out of alive, and the winner is almost assured to win it all.

More even conferences, with a regular season similar to now, but potentially more difficult games in the playoffs.

Don't know the answer, but it would certainly make it harder for a cinderella SEC team to pull off a natty if the conference got even more brutal than it already is.

SEC is missing representatives from States of Virginia and North Carolina to complete the geography of historical “South.”

And no one from those states wants to join the SEC

To be honest - I agree with Paul here.

Texas and OU to the sec would be cool for those respective fanbases, but all of this talk is far more indicative of the big 12 being on its death bed. I’m fine with it either way because I at least know that Texas (and OU and maybe Kansas) will land on its feet in any conference/being independent with the resources they have. The rest of the big 12… I’m not so sure.

Personally, I would love everything about the Pac-12 except for the fact that I don’t want to be watching Texas football until 1:30 am CST

Both OU and Texas have flirted with the PAC before. The leadership of both schools look at themselves as being West Coast type schools with similar academics as some of those schools. The fan bases of both those schools fit more with the SEC I think. But the leadership of both schools look at themselves as PAC 12 type schools. So I think it’s safe to say if the SEC doesn’t take them then the PAC 12 is where they will turn and make a big push to get in.

Looks like Paul got the talking points from Sankey and ESPN.

Put them in the Pac 16. It wouldn’t be bad for the SEC to have someone in the conversation for second best other than the B1G.

Honestly, I'm not sure it even matters what anyone "wants."

As usual, when the dominoes start falling, it will likely come down to television markets and money.

I beg to differ... I’d prefer UNC, Duke, VATECH easily over ok or tejas

I'd rather see them go to the PAC 12. Don't care if it gets stronger.

The problem Texas has (and to an extent OU) is that as long as they stay in the Big 12 it is viable and if they leave they will completely screw over Tech, Baylor, TCU, and OSU. Politically there is no way that Texas can do that unless they get A&M's full throated support both to join the SEC and to screw over those other schools.

Good luck with that.

Not a bad point. A problem I have, among others, with adding a team like Oklahoma into the "Southeastern" Conference is that Oklahoma is not geographically located in the Southeast. Seems like a joke of a name at that point.

Va Tech would fit. Problem is the ACC passed a rule where leaving the conference is extremely expensive if I remember right after the last round of expansion. So they could not afford to leave most likely. Clemson, FSU, and Va Tech are great fits in the SEC and I would rather have any of them rather than Texas and OU. I probably can live with OU but not Texas.

Good points there, I agree if OU and Texas Goes to the BIG, that gives the BIG10 a large footprint in Texas, playing OU in Norman gives you a footprint in Texas as all the Texas recruits watch OU football.

Nebraska, who is totally not relevant, also gets back to having lifeline.

Agree.

There is some truth to this statement. I’m not sure how the politics play out on this one. But at the end of the day, I think Texas could go the Independent route if needed, or at least threaten it. Not sure if that would matter either way.. at least it makes the off-season more entertaining..
