I gotta Say, of all the years
To argue for expansion this isn’t it.

I dont Think there is any real arguement for Texas A&M to be in the playoff.

That might be true for A&M, but Coastal Carolina beat BYU and Louisiana at least.

Honestly I think this is the year to try it. Everyone has played different schedules and we can’t get a read on how good teams actually are

IMO the best playoff system would be a 6 team playoff.

Sec champ
Acc champ
Big ten champ
Big 12 champ
PAC 12 champ
Best of Group of 5 or independent

Top 2 seeds get bye

The conference championships technically would make it 12 team playoffs as they would be play in games.

I say if you can’t win your conference, then you don’t deserve a shot to win the national championship,as you’re not even the best from your conference.

It makes the regular season still very important .

Arguments would be for example this year:
Texas AM is better than big 12 champ Iowa st or Oklahoma... well yeah maybe, but they aren’t better than Alabama and had their chance at playoff by beating Alabama.

Playoffs would be:
Alabama
ND Or Clemson
Ohio st
USC
Iowa st or Oklahoma
Cincinnati

If we could get to 8 that needs to be the first goal
8 would get all conf champs plus a group of 5
Some of those matchups have already happened with unc and notre dame

Baby Steps

5 conference champs
spot for notre dame when they earn it assuming they don't join ACC which would be in their best interest
1 group of five when they qualify or are good enough
2/3 at large depending on Notre Dame and Group of 5 in any given season

Would be excellent to have one of those teams in that last bracket of four, setting up the possibility of an all-SEC semi-final and final.

This would be amazing. Half the first round would be competitive. It's more than a month of good football, and you can still have your meaningless bowls.

This is objectively better.

Clemson has the easy bracket

Agree.

Bama should switch with Clemson if they win Saturday. Ranked higher and a tougher schedule needs to be rewarded.

Alabama at 1 should have the choice of not going to effin California... just sayin.

IF this was actually reality the only "safe" solution would be bubble type scenario similar to the NBA or MLB.

Can't have any Covid opt outs.

Kills any reason to win your conference championship. It rewards mediocrity. No.

I like it, but I'd be in favor of on-campus games until at least the semifinals. The bowl atmosphere frankly just sucks.

I think Arlington, Pasadena, and Atlanta ought to rotate each year between hosting the semifinals and the finals. All other bowls should be for teams ranked #17 and below.

I know this would eliminate the traditional Rose Bowl, but if the Rose Bowl wants to remain relevant, it needs to move on from demanding a January 1 game between the PAC 12 and the BIG 10. Football has changed, and the Rose Bowl must adapt.

If u think this solves anything, you’re delusional. Shoe in for Bama vs. ND/Clemson. No other team would make it

It's not about who would make it. It's giving these teams a chance to be a national champion.

16 teams is stupid, in that scenario you're looking at 6 or 7 first round blowouts

Nah. You'd get a few blowouts for sure, but you'd also get some upsets. Here is ESPN FPI would project the marins from most competitive to least competitive

+19.5 Alabama over Iowa
+16.1 Clemson over Northwestern
+13.4 Ohio State over USC
+10.1 Notre Dame over N. Carolina
+9.1 Texas A&M over Coastal Carolina
+7.4 Georgia over Cincinnati
+2.3 Oklahoma over Florida
+0.4 Iowa State over Indiana

Would be awesome if this was truly how the postseason was structured.

I'd take NC and the 10.5 in a sec.

Wrong. It would enhance the regular season. More games would matter. There would be playoff battles all over the place every week.

Why would anybody want the the final four to be all one conference?
