I totally understand and even agree with a lot of the arguments that it shouldn't expand past 6 or 8........but just looking at that bracket and those locations has to make anybody be like "fvck yes, that'd be an awesome ride".
Looks like you typo'd and put 6 or 8 when it should be 4.
There is no reason to expand beyond 4. The playoffs are to decide the national championship. Not provide extra entertainment for people who need narratives.
Most years, more than 2 is too many really, but some years 3 is needed and 4th is just what comes along. As a result, 4 is all that is needed and the perfect number.
All these other expands are because of disputes over the 4th place team most often, not because any of these teams have a legit claim on the #1 spot.
With that kind of logic, it's just going to keep on expanding like the basketball tourney. People already cry about how the season is meaningless early because some teams are in no matter what at a certain point. Just going to make it worse.

Left side is 10x better than the right.

I so want this to happen. It would be a blast.

Florida would make the final four imho

I would do a 12 team playoff. Top 4 get byes. Other 8 do play-in games.

That looks fun as hell....its 2020..why frickin not!?!?

Would be so fun
Not for the rest of the country when the final four is all Southern teams and two or three SEC

Not a fan. Why bracket and play a team we've already played?
The season has to mean something otherwise why have a season.

Well, I'm guessing the bracket wouldn't look exactly like this.

I generally agree with that, and 16 is too many.

16 teams is stupid, in that scenario you're looking at 6 or 7 first round blowouts. The only games with a realistic chance of being competitive are Iowa State/Indiana and Florida/OU. Every other game is likely a 3+ score affair and over in the 3rd quarter or sooner.
Why do that? In any given year there are no more than 5-6 teams truly capable of winning a national title. 8 is a perfect number that gives every team capable of competing at that level a chance, and though you will still have 2-3 canon fodder teams that's acceptable to include every legitimate contender. 16 teams gives you an entire round of games that effectively do not matter and would be no fun for anybody, most especially the teams losing by 40 when they could be a bowl against a similar team with a chance to win.
Nobody wants to see Coastal Carolina or Northwestern get their shite pushed in so we can feel good about ourselves for giving them a chance.

Most years there aren’t even 4 qualified teams. Last year, for example.
I would be OK with a 6 team playoff, where 1 & 2 get a bye.
Beyond that, it’s a waste.

Nah, give me all Conference Champions.

How about a 6 team playoff with the 5 and 6 spots being play in games?
Give CC and Cin the opportunity to play their way in. We need some fresh blood in the playoffs.

That would be great! A&M in the infamous 5-12 slot like the NCAA tournament.
There's nothing interesting about that matchup. A&M would annihilate Coastal Carolina and salt the Earth with their remains.
Why in the world do some of you want to watch games like that? I don't want to watch games like that in September, let alone December or January. There is almost no parity in college football and it is unique from most other team sports in this regard, including college basketball. You cannot use these systems designed for other sports to determine a college football champ without making a mockery of the process.
Coastal Carolina and ULaLa barely play the same sport as we do in the SEC.

It’s interesting to look at and talk about, but other than having more college football to watch, I’m not sure I’m a fan. How many of those first round games, especially this year, would be competitive, exciting games? Maybe 2-3?
The parity is lacking to make a football tournament as exciting as March Madness. More often than not, we would end up with some combination of the top 5 or 6 teams in the “Final Four”.
This might be a bad year to make the comparison for those that are pro-expansion. Because of the craziness that has been the 2020 season, the top teams have dominated even more than usual. A more normal regular season might lead to an increase in meaningful, exciting, first round games.

Um.... I would for the match up alone.
I watched the shite out of the Georgia Hawaii game just for the spectacle of the match upp on that stage.

You'd have Alabama risk injuries to important players just to watch them beat Iowa by 40?
Some of you are categorically INSANE for wanting any part of this charade. INSANE.

Why are so many people so goddamn determined to see Coastal Carolina or Cincy get sodomized by Alabama or Clemson? What in the world does that prove?

This year it's them, won't be every year. Also this is what college sports is about. If a team goes undefeated, does everything they are supposed to who are we to deny them the right to play in a playoff that legally they are entitled to play in?
With a 6 team playoff you can then make the number 1 and 2 seed mean something. 1 and 2 get byes, 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5. You then are back to your 4 team playoff with only a couple extra games played. Which also means more money in everyone's pocket.
