Fans love to troll each other all the time about this school cheating over that school. Hell I do it too, because I believe some are, but I don't know that. There are the narratives...Cam, The REC, blah blah blah, and certain things surface publically like the Ole Miss stuff, but I don't think there are many people who do actually know that. I get the sense that coaching staffs and boosters have a "don't ask don't tell" relationship. How much do you think SEC football programs cheat and to what extent? Are we cleaner or dirtier as a league then we were say, 20 years ago?

Take how much you believe they are cheating and triple it. That's how much each team is cheating.

Oodles. The issue with fans isn't the cheating, it's the fact that certain fanbases are absolutely stupid enough to believe their rival is corrupt and their program is clean. That's god-mode level denial and laughable as hell.

Cleaner. Too much technology, too much ability to get the information out on the Internet. It forces coaches and boosters alike to worry a lot more about how easily the news can get out. That's not to say it's clean, just a bit cleaner.

Basically if a team explodes onto the scene from nowhere amd starts upsetting very good teams (ole piss) , its safe to say its time to fact check.

Every program cheats to some extent. It just depends on how far some programs (coaches/boosters) are willing to go.

I cant speak for right here and now, but as of late 90s through mid 2000s it was going on at a certain level at several schools in the SEC, Big 12, and Big 10, I can tell you for a fact.

I think most of the coaches do their best to retain plausible deniability with current players, but it’s not exactly a well kept secret among anyone close to the program that boosters often take care of rent/car payments/etc. at a pretty high rate. When players return for their senior season when they’re projected to be drafted that is almost a guaranteed situation where they’re getting taken care of.

Recruiting stuff is kept much closer to the vest, it seems. There’s no doubt that there’s cheating going on in the high level recruiting battles, but I think 75-80% of recruitments are pretty clean.

When you say cheat? I know you are speaking of money, hoes, and cars. What about covering up grades, drugs, and crimes??

All in the same?

Seems like much of the shift of "benefits" in the last couple decades has gone from the player to all the people who influence the player… i.e. parents coaches, uncles, "handlers" etc. in the form of untraceable things such as job opportunities , house sitting gigs, contracts awarded etc

It's a good question. A lot of the academic centers and focus on keeping kids eligible that has gone on in the last several years due to the APR rating, seems to me like. I know the kids take a ton of courses online now which is different than it used to be. I have no idea about the crime stuff, which would seem to be more difficult to cover up.

Define cheating.

Speeding ticket level stuff like players getting low value free stuff like any other local celebrity?

Tons and it happens everywhere, not just the SEC.

Legitimate mild-to-moderate NCAA issues like arranging accommodations/transportation/ect for recruit family & friends?

Probably infrequent but not exactly uncommon.

High volume level 1 stuff? Not that much. Like someone else said, technology makes it much harder to keep that under wraps for very long.

Every recruit on a visit to a school is getting impermissible benefits to a degree. Most of these recruits will meet a booster who will help them out if they go to that school. Usually the recruits learn that they can get free food and free drinks at certain restaurants and bars in town. If you believe boosters are throwing crazy money around for these kids you're wrong.

Ok,please spew some "facts" to us.

I hear this stuff constantly on hear but little if any 1st hand stories or corroberration.

Yea,I knew some athletes who had nice rides and had friend who played and hosted a high profile SEC recruit who openly bragged about bag money that he kept from a school that he didn't attend but that's the extent of what I know to be facts.

Like an earlier poster started IF it's that prevalent these days then we would hear much more about it through social media.Maybe not from players per se but family members, girl friends and HS teammates.Sorry, people have big mouths especially younger people.

Its funny how you yourself admits an actual pacific case of cheating like Cam but you throw out a broad bs claim like the REC on us cause you got nothing on us. We don't need to cheat. We got Saban.

I’ve personally witnessed boosters paying players small petty cash twice. Once at Ole Miss to Patrick Willis in the Grove in the tent I was in. Gave him $500 to “have some fun” after a game. This was a good friends Dad.

And a guy gave Perrilloux a wad of cash to play video poker at Daiquiri Cafe like a week before he won us the SEC championship game.

Perrilloux was also smoking cigarettes

ETA: and I know some boosters in Baton Rouge that are parents of my friends that give players “jobs” for extra cash, this technically legal though because they do work...somewhat.

One guy had Jamarcus Russell “babysit” him when he was in high school. Russell would just chill alone at the house on a Friday night watching tv.
