The guy can recruit and he’s not a bad coach, just boring and could never get over the hump from being decent to really good. Unfortunately Memphis isn’t in a position to keep underperforming with the resources currently being pumped in and the time frame to try and get on the last chopper out of the g5. Is what it is, I wish him well and hope he does good things.

After a couple of sound bites… I’m coming around a little bit… we shall see what he can do.

Yes, problems are administrative. AD at Arkansas made a big deal of trying to limit coaches salaries and contract terms when he first got hired. Then he fought against NIL even though it could have been the best thing to ever happen for Arkansas. So is it any surprise the better coaches won’t work for him?

Look at the last 2 coaches from Memphis Fuentes tanked at VaTech, Norvell had a great season and is lucky there aren't any other coaches to hire right now... stinking up FSU...how?
Memphis is basically Boise State in the South

He’ll have Arkansas at 6 wins within two years. That’s a step up. 8 wins the following year.

I do. It’ll take a couple of years. I don’t think he’ll ever compete for a natty, but he should have you in mid- to upper-tier bowls and maybe the playoffs (big maybe).

This.

Why fire Pittman early if you’re not going to be aggressive?

Of course, you do have a moron for an AD.

Moron had his guy early on I think. I think this was always the plan.

I like a tough-minded coach who emphasizes the run. Better than running a poorer version of everyone else’s offense. Get some dogs on defense and you’ve got a chance.

They said Broyles was a moron, then long was a moron and now this guy is a moron. Why fire this guy and hire another moron because the football program can’t figure it out? Everything else is working fine but it seems like fan interest has shifted away from football for a long time and the question is will it come back like it was back in the day.

As far as this new coach goes I hope he doesn’t have a big buyout because our fanbase will be calling for his head in short order and some already are and he hasn’t even gotten here yet. I can’t imagine why no decent coach wants to come here.

The best athletes in Arkansas don't play football anymore. They play basketball. This is a core issue that no HC or AD is going to fix.

Maybe if the Waltons ever decide to buy up a bunch of mercenaries, but honestly who even wants that. Just let the program die it's natural death at this point. We've had it plugged in to life support just throwing money down the drain for a few years now.

Give him three years and you’ll be back in a bowl game. Just don’t get antsy if years 4-6 you seem stuck at 7-5 to 8-4.

If your inbred fan base doesn’t screw it up he will have Arkansas back on a foundation where any given year may be a playoff run.

Perennial 6-6 to 8-4, maybe a 9-3 year in there. Just be ready for some boring and bland football with a lot of wtf moments. One of those guys you can’t justify firing but will be happy when he’s gone
You just described the guy we just fired.

So we fired Pittman for another Pittman. Wonderful.

We heard over and over the money guys were getting together to make a splash hire kinda like Calipari. Well, a frog and elephant both generate a splash when they hit the water. Arkansas got the frog.

Rough year to try to hire a coach.

And Arkansas has LSU, Texas and Missouri as its permanent opponents. That’s two rough games and a game that Arkansas seems to be a little snake bit in.

And with a 9-game schedule, it’s could be a long haul rebuild.

It’s not impossible. And I think Silverfield could be a capable coach. The SEC is just a tough place to try to build a program when you’re not one of the top dogs. I say that as a fan of a program that’s obviously not a top dog.
