re: How does the rest of the SEC feel about Sankey acting in direct defiance of NCAA rules?

The NCAA officially entered an oral argument today in Kentucky that any player who attends a minicamp is ineligible.
No signature needed, no money needed, no stipulations.
If you attend a tryout, you’re ineligible to the NCAA.

Do they though?
If the reports are true, it was argued by the NCAA in court today that any player who attended a mini-camp or beyond is considered ineligible.
Honestly, it should be anyone who was entered into the draft.

The NCAA clearly defines that attendance of a NFL minicamp to tryout does NOT violate any rule or jeopardize a player’s eligibility.
LSU fans are either unable or unwilling to comprehend that.

Indeed it was reported that they did. This as a standalone declaration appears to be in conflict with their own bylaws, however.
I'd like to see their actual brief to see if it is nuanced in any way by referencing another prohibited activity thought to take place during the mini-camp.

That’s not what the NCAA argued in court today.

That’s part of the problem though isn’t it?
The entire reason the NCAA was restrained over the class of 2022 lawsuits in the first place was that their 5 for 5 bylaw didn’t explicitly exclude the class of 2022 in any text (only by way of the timing of its implementation).
This also brings to mind the LA AG’s affidavit about clear and consistent rules.
It’s almost like the NCAA screwed up the implementation and transition of a new rule… didn’t have the foresight to write rules regarding this scenario… and is now scrambling around trying to get its story straight.
The honest truth is that no school should be subject to penalization over this incompetence, the 2022 players deserve relief that courts are granting them, and this should not open any NFL to NCAA pipeline… because the only reason any of this is relevant is the simple fact that the class of 2022 was forced to make a decision under a false pretense that they had no other choice.

Hence the Tweet saying that the NCAA has reversed its position..

It seems like Sankey has a lack of institutional control

Sankey is doing what his bosses tell him to do. He's no different than the NFL commissioner being paid to take heat for the owners.
If that's the case, they should fire him now and hire a new scapegoat with fewer scars.

It’s not hard to just read the posts on this page in order man.
You don’t see the problem that the NCAA nor the SEC seem to be able to get a story straight on this issue?
Pretty much the exact same reason the NCAA was restrained & the class of 2022 granted initial relief in federal court.
Phone back in when the league suddenly becomes competent. I personally believe the theory that the NCAA is engineering chaos in pursuit of an antitrust exemption, but I think all they have done here is severely damage chances of ever obtaining that.

Does the Big Ten have the same rules? I was thinking I saw the Big Ten and the SEC said no pro NFL players.

SEC is bound by the NCAA’s rules, and commissioner recently confirmed this under oath. I would guess the same is true of the B1G regardless of any conference bylaws.

The real issue is that everything is changing in college football faster than the NCAA and conferences are reacting. The Southeastern Conference adopted strict policies prohibiting athletes who signed professional contracts or joined pro rosters from playing in the conference, threatening severe penalties for non-compliance. But that left the loophole nation-wide for players in minicamps.
LSU blatantly took it a step further and got an exception just for them.
Previously we were talking about the conferences replacing the NCAA. Now, are we also planning to get rid of the conferences and have every team for itself? Is that what LSU really wants?

Again, LSU is one of the few teams in the league who doesn’t have a player rostered on a TRO.
Got to quit believing everything Finebaum and USA Today op eds have to say.
