I guess the New Boss isn't the same as the Old Boss.

We’re currently getting a bunch of predictions for some kid named Javeon Campbell. #1 player in Kentucky. Not quite as highly rated as Grady but has only played 2 years of organized football

I think the new coaching staff isn't as established in state, but seems to be doing pretty well overall. Think I saw they are in the top 5 right now and looking good for a couple more 5*s.

OSU is recruiting really well right now, so it's not strange that a good player would be interested (just like the other top 10 schools)

You'll have to ask Auburn about that one. Their fans swore he was going to commit to them.

I don't think our new staff was ever able to establish a real relationship with him.

The same way they let Jordan Ross get out of Bham when he’s the #1 edge in his class and 5*.

So they could get a big time edge rusher from elsewhere.

Alabama offered both Gray & Ross, so obviously Alabama wanted them.
Two of the Top DE's in the Country reside in your own State and you couldn't land either one of them ?

Saban would most likely have landed both and you would have your Bookend DE's locked down for the next 3/4 years.
But your new guy wiffed on both.

I'm sure your school lands 100% of the in state talent

For starters Alabama is no longer running Saban’s defense. Not the same priorities for defensive players. Plus the new staff doesn’t have the same ties in the state yet. The new staff was not as heavily after Grady, but they did re-offer. They prioritized Justin Hill (who happens to be from Ohio) and Dawson Merritt.

Ross was in last year’s class. So it doesn’t sound like you know what you’re talking about. And I guess you mean Grady not Gray.

I'd let the dust settle before you start kicking Bama recruiting class. They are top 5 and a heavy lean to climb.

Dawson Merritt just committed to Alabama. So as I said, they valued other edge rushers over Grady.

With NIL, I wonder how much of it behind the scenes is becoming almost salary cap related.

You may not value the top talent at a position for top money, if the alternative means getting multiple other high talent players that may be more developmental while adding depth.

It's a headache to think about, but a current reality.

Like these people having no idea what they're talking about has ever stopped them

That's Alabama's way of saying, "We lost the best so we're taking something less."

Some guys simply don't have the chest to compete against the other recruits who inevitably show up. Others really weren't as "wanted" as you might have been led to believe.

Are you saying Dawson Merritt is less? He’s rated higher than Grady by most of the recruiting services.

Even when Saban was here, Alabama didn’t get every top in state recruit. In fact, as recruiting became more national and less regional, Alabama got a lower percentage of them. But they more than made up for it by getting players from Texas, Florida, Louisiana, California and even states like New Jersey among others. Over the last five years, here are the top 10 in state recruits (per Rivals) that Alabama did NOT sign. Beside them is what Rivals ranked Alabama’s overall recruiting class.

2024: 2, 4, 5, 6, 9 - #2 nationally
2023: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9 - #1 nationally
2022: 2, 6, 7, 8 - #2 nationally
2021: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 - #1 nationally
2020: 2, 6, 7 - #3 nationally

Three out of the last five years Alabama signed half or less of the top 10 in state players.

The year that Alabama did the best in state was 2020. They got 7 of the top 10 recruits in Alabama. That was also their lowest ranked class in the past 5 years. Their worst year for in state recruits was 2021, signing only 4 of the top 10 in state recruits. Their recruiting class was ranked #1 that year.

Auburn was slow playing him some to see how he performed his senior year. I guess he didn’t like that. He may end up back at Auburn, but who knows. I trust the coaches on this one. There are 3 stars they like better than 4 stars, specifically linemen. But there are 4 and 5 stars they like too.

Add in that OSU is butthurt that Michigan won and they are paying more in NIL now.
