It is a fair question, and you are right, Mac had some really good teams in the 70's and could not beat Bama, but nobody else did either. Of the 10 SEC titles in the 70's, Bama won 8, LSU 1 and I think UGA won 1. UK would have won a co-title one year I think in 76 but were not eligible. UK now claims it because it was 1 year bowl ban for some stupid NCAA rule. So Bama had 8, LSU 1 and UK-UGA 1.

As good as Saban has been, I don't think he has put together an 8 out of 10 run, with respect to SEC Titles. In time Saban has been at Bama, 2007 to 2018, It is Alabam 6, LSU 2, Auburn 2, Florida 1, and UGA 1. So 6 out of 12 for Bama, which is still damn good. If Saban wins the SEC this year, it will be 6 out of 10 which also is really, really, good, but not the 8 out of 10 Bear did in the 70's. That is still the gold standard of coaching, IMO, in the history of the SEC.

It would be good for O to get an SEC title here soon, but I don't think firing him is an option. This is really now his program, and he is 58 and starting to come into his own, Saban will turn 69 this month I believe. I just want to see LSU play Alabama all over the field and not try to play them in the basement or phone booth like they have since 2011, etc, etc. Go down swinging if you are going to go down, 2 TE, 2 Backs and play defense, while I personally like the old school style of football, today you have to be QB centered and Offensively elite to win, and play at least pretty good defense. Coach O has changed the football culture at LSU for the better and I was not Miles hater, thought he was stubborn as crap, but not a hater.

I mean Alabama isn’t just beating us, they’re beating everyone and everything. We’re in the midst of a once in a generation dynasty. I think it would be unrealistic to decide the fate of someone as compared to something that isn’t our issue alone, but everyone’s.

That's a myth, McClendon could and did beat Alabama in 1969 and 1970.

From 1971 to 1979 LSU lost over 4 games per year on average, had a losing season and was 2-4 in bowl games, missing bowls in '74, '75, and '76. The fact of the matter is that the game had passed McClendon by in the mid-70s, it wasn't just losing to Alabama.

When Saban steps down as head coach of the Tide, do you think the new coach will have bricks thrown through his office after a loss or death threats?

Will that blonde broad show up and welcome the new coach?

I think LSU beats Bama this year, so there's that.

I see The Alabama Fear Trolling Industry is alive and well. Going back to the 70s for this one. Fear noted.

Bear Bryant would start praising Cholly Mac anytime his seat started getting warm. The Bear wanted him to coach at LSU for as long as possible.

Only of O refuses to do something obvious to improve the team like Les. He will get a number of tries at Bama before people start barking.

Yes, I believe he will. And needs to be.

Bama would do the same if roles were reversed.

Its like they say, if ur not first u may as well be last.

Honest question for Bama fans:

Will you keep Nick Saban after he loses to Coach Ed O?

No, MAC had some good teams is what I said. His 1970 to 1973 teams were in the hunt for the SEC title every year. They won it in 1970. In 1969, they were 9-1 there one loss was to Ole Miss. LSU had only 5 league games, TENN had 6, both had 1 loss to Ole Miss, but TENN won the title on Winning %. (Tulane leaving the SEC in 1966 season put LSU without 6 league games until I think 1971 when the league revamped the schedules)

McClendon played for Bryant at Kentucky, and both grew up in southern Arkansas. They were close.

If he wins 10-11 games per year he will keep his job as long as he wants it.

What really got Miles in trouble is when he started dropping games to other teams besides Alabama with some frequency.

Who is consistently beating Saban? Dabo isn’t coming to LSU, so I don’t see O going anywhere if he stays in the 9 to 11 win per regular season range.

Bama wasn’t Les’s undoing. It was dropping games to not great OM and Ark teams.

McClendon couldn't beat a lot of teams.

He wasn't ranked his last 7 years. So this isn't really the same thing.
