Herman is no different than McElwain from CSU to UF. Or Frost would be from UCF to anywhere bigger.

Point being, successful big school coaches are mostly out of reach, you have to take a chance on a hot name up and comer at a smaller school...like tom herman. PJ Fleck wound up at Minnesota...

If not that, an assistant coach.

Who are the coaches that coached at a P5 school for 5 years or more and left that job for a better one?

Nobody said they had to be at a school for 5 years.

Meyer was out of work for a year. But typically, yes.
This is one reason I sad that Meyer made up the health issue to leave Florida for another job. he suspected, heard, or was told that if he would leave for a year, the job at OSU would come open and he would be hired. just my guess....and I know you were not talking to me. Sorry for butting in on your conversation.

Money would bring a lot of the top coaches to the SEC. They would change jobs from a top school to another one for money. And with the SEC network money we are all getting you would think SEC schools would be taking advantage of that.

How is Kiffin not a freaking prayer but then you say he some schools will give him a shot out of desperation?

Isn't this kind of self explanatory ?

Don't care or GAS...just giving you input on your list.

Sure if they have proven resume with conference championchips or top 10's...those folks don't grow on trees.

I think Stricklin will go for proven first, but proven has so many obsticles now.

Big buyouts have ruined getting big name coaches unless in a unique situation now. Would cost UF 20 million to get Gundy out of his contract. So it's kind of the angle you have to go now. Outside of Kelly and Stoops, what big name could UF go for that makes sense? I would love Kelly obviously, but it's a reach. I think he honestly goes to UCLA, he is a West coast guy to me.

Maybe I am wrong. I consider Houston a better/bigger school than UCF or CSU. They were old members of the Southwest Conference.

No doubt. Again, Georgia does the same thing. I know LSU has gone after some established coaches, and a few other schools, too.

Either way....good luck on the search.

Nobody said a time frame but the coaches that were Named Gundy , Ferentz ect have been at their programs more then 5 years. Guys normally get their big job in less then 5 years at a P5 school. Almost every coach hired at major P5 programs have less then 5 years with a P5 team. I don’t Know if the Mullen and Gundy type guys don’t want the pressure of have a top job or if ADs just don’t think they are worth the money. I think the guys like Mullen hate the pressure compared to guys like Kiffin .

man, things have changed. I still consider UCF as being a small, small school....barely a step or two above Georgia Southern

UCF has the largest undergrad enrollment in the country
