I gotta say that rosegreen hit was about the dirtiest hit I have ever seen. If he had done that now, he would have been ejected and possible suspended the rest of the season. Just fricking dirty.

Bennett's hit knocked Beuerlien out of the game. Instant replay showed it as a recovered fumble as well, but we didn't get the call. That hit rivals Clowneys in my opinion - but the impact (momentum) of both plays were huge.

You cant apply todays rules to previous times. It was a clean hit at the time.

It was a LEGAL hit at the time. Nothing about that hit was clean regardless of when it was.

what makes Clowney's hit the best isn't the hit itself, it's the sequence of events that led to it and after it.
we got screwed by the refs, then the next play Clowney blows up with this hit and recovers the fumble himself LIKE A BOSS.
then first play after, Connor hits Ace for the TD deep in the endzone.

The refs hit on Stevie G last year was pretty vicious.

It's really not all that obvious because I still think the Ohio state kid knocking AU's RB's dick in the dirt is the winner personally. Unless you count dirty hits and then maybe the hit the AU guy made on the UGA receiver where he was unconscious before he hit the ground. But I dont really wanna give that player any credit at all for that. Maybe the dirtiest play I've seen in football as far as hits go.

I don't know how this thread got this far without the Steve Atwater hit on Christian Okeye. Okeye was the beast of the NFL until this hit. It looks kinda benign as compared to helmet flying stuff but this was epic in my world when it happened. It was as big as Sugar Ray getting backed in the corner and kicking Hagler's arse back out to center ring.

I sat in the UGA section at Jordan Hare that year and not one Georgia fan was screaming for a flag. My have the times changed.
