Fair point. Anything would be better than what Gus brought in his last few years on the OL.
This is the main reason Auburn failed under Gus Malzahn.

He couldn’t recruit the OL because his offense doesn’t prepare said position for the NFL. Auburn had one successful OL in the NFL from 2009-2011, 2013-2020 and that was Braden Smith. Every SEC team negatively recruited Auburn in that area and they were right.

Why so angry?

Sorry, thought that was from the Harsin obsessed Missouri fan.

And yes, Harsin took that class from the 60s to 19 after being in the job for less than 2 months.
We’ll see how it goes next February

If he is so bad imagine being the school with a fat butch lesbian coach who Harsin hired twice, and for good measure was hired by Gus once. Oh...wait...you do. Retard.

See I think he deserves 100% credit for Marshall though.. He was a CB at Georgia.. And then played at CC. There is not a single coach that would have gotten more out of Nick Marshall than Gus... His offense was MADE for guys like Nick Marshall.

Makes you wonder why he kept recruiting guys who wanted to sit in the pocket. Really made no sense. "But but but he did it at Tulsa!!." You aint in Tulsa anymore bud

And he ain’t at Auburn anymore either.

Hopefully he figures himself out at UCF.

I'm not going to say that Gus is a great QB coach, but you can't write off Marshall's development in his two years at Auburn.

His first few games at Auburn he could barely throw the football and in his last regular season game he threw for like 450 yards against Alabama albeit in a loss.

If everyone wants to keep pointing that out it's fine, but Alabama was #59 in pass defense that year. The only team he's had worse than that was 2020, but a lot of that was teams had to throw a lot because they were down 20 points before they could blink

But the answer is no. Gus was never able to take a player from high school and coach him for 3-5 years . It's why he's no longer at Auburn.

I know he's the GOAT, but one of the reasons Saban has been so successful at Alabama is he/his staff have developed QBs without fail. He's had eight full time starters at QB. Seven signed with Alabama out of high school, and the one that didn't (Coker) still sat and developed for a year before leading Alabama to a title.

What development?

Here's his stats for those years:

This is why you can't look at raw stats and judge the effectiveness of a player. As an Alabama fan, I remember being terrified of Nick Marshall's capabilities because the dude could both run and pass the football. He ran for over 1,000 yards in 2013 and nearly 800 yards in 2014.

Both were in the Work/Release programs at that time. Unlike the transfer portal of todays college football.

Why would he? Why do you think he's such a good coach? You realize HE is the reason we lost to UCF?

That record may have been broken, but he was there...

Dameyune Craig in Pro Football Hall of Fame for record-setting NFL Europe game

quote:

Craig gained his greatest acclaim on the field as a pro with the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe, where he passed for a single-game league record 611 yards against Frankfort and matched another league mark with five touchdown passes in a game.

That speaks volumes for Gus then. If Marshall wasn't really a QB and Gus turned him into a successful SEC QB then he did a damn good job with him.

I don't think Gus developed him as a QB as much as put him in the absolute perfect system to win. With a lot of the rule changes since then that system wouldn't work anymore...as seen by Gus' demise. But back to Marshall's development as QB....he plays DB....in Canada
