With a lot of the rule changes since then that system wouldn't work anymore...as seen by Gus' demise.
Malzahn's demise was caused by the fact that his offensive system was a "gimmick" that took advantage of the larger, lumbering defensive players who were too slow in the feet to react to the misdirection Malzahn's offenses tended to throw at them. That offense was built to run on smoke and mirrors and it worked for a time. Then coaches began to recruit to stop it. Malzahn couldn't adapt his system to change with the times.

There are a lot of reasons for it, what you've said is a huge part of it. Along with recruiting no OL, not letting his offensive staff do their jobs, etc etc etc. Good riddance

Let's go ahead and put an end to this thread. I would think an LSU fan would remember this moment with one of the best HS QBs to come into Malzahn's program at Auburn...

Ole Gus left Lee County with that BMW stuffed with YellaFella's money.
The barn paid that guy close to 65-70 millions since 2009.

and he wasn't really a QB.
So he wasn’t really a QB but had a prettt good year as one when Gus turned him into a QB? I don’t think Gus develops QBs well but this isn’t a good reference point

yes he is! he made nickie and greg melt and that was pretty funny to me and a lot of other non bama folks. i will admit a grudging respect for bama tho. my dad played for the frosh team at auburn but his first cousin was a star that played both sides of the ball. he played pro and coached and i believe he might have coached with bear. his name was bobby luna from lewisberg tennessee. lol he smoked my old man. look him up sometime. bobby luna.
