This is coming to a football program near you sooner instead of later. Ticket prices are in the shitter for most post season games. Donors are going to realize that having a QB who has a heap of potential but takes a slide in year 2 ain't worth the money it takes to get him to their kids birthday party. I see a bunch of billboards around town with UGA players on them. I know who the players are, I can't tell you what they are advertising LOL....the people ponying up aren't getting a lot of bang for their buck....and they ain't gonna do it long. Players best make hay while the sun shines because folks with the kind of money needed to pay a linebacker a million bucks to play a season of football simply because it feels good to be part of the team are going to stop doing it when the thrill is gone. There are only so many birthday parties and new car dealership openings to go so far,,,,,

Isn’t it part of Byrne’s job to raise money? I know this thread is really meant for trolling, but the truth is that athletic departments make a lot of money, but they also have to spend a lot of money to make all of these sports and sporting events happen. NIL is now one more thing that they have to spend money on (through the collectives), and the cost of NIL continues to rise. That being the case, it seems pretty logical that athletic departments want to bring in every dollar that they can to cover the all of these rising costs, including NIL.

What will Alabama spend to go to a bowl game this year? I would bet between the team and support staff, cheerleaders and band members its way north of a million bucks.

I might be way. Apparently Rutgers spent $1.14 million to travel to St Petersburg for a bowl game in 2010. Thats probably a $2 million trip in 2024. While that is not a pile of money compared to what Alabama, for example, makes, it is also not a small amount of money to spend.....

Well, we do have more than a half-million people living in poverty. More than most states... Thank the football gods for Mississippi.

I don’t understand why GB keeps rattling his cup at the regular fans when he probably has a rolodex with hundreds of bagmen in it. No I’m not going to send my peanuts to the NIL fund for players who are earning literally millions more than I am. Alabama is one of the wealthiest programs in CFB, figure it out Greg.

Worst case scenario we embezzle money from a children’s hospital, there is already a blueprint for that.

Doesn't Bama often have the most players in the NFL? You know, guys making millions because of the opportunity they got thanks to playing football at Alabama? Maybe rattle the can at them some instead of going down to the trailer park.

LSU has had multiple athletes give back to our NIL, certainly Alabama has even more loyal former athletes than LSU.

You have no idea what you are talking about dimwit. UA has plenty of money. NIL cannot come from the schools .
You really show your stupidity with this post.
If individuals and corporations want to play the game and get the best then they should be encouraged to contribute. WTH is wrong with that?

It's a matter of if you want to support such a model. The fans pay for tickets in the NFL, they don't pay for the players and the tickets. College football relies a lot on donations and other funding, but it's mostly been towards facilities and long term investments until now.

Because the NFL gets a return on it's investment it's sustainable long term.

Imagine if the NFL turned around and then asked the fans to donate money to pay the salaries. That's basically what the college model is.

And I get that he kind of has to do these things because it's his job. But there is no way in hell I will give a single penny to such a cause. Especially when these kids are as likely to just bolt to some other team next year, and this money is just to pay for some kid who bolted from his team as well.

Not a chance in hell I support this mercenary nonsense in anyway.
