You are absolutely correct, but, it does give the NCAA reason to interview every player on that team and ask them have they EVER taken any benefit that wasn't allowed by the NCAA. And these investigators are known to put pressure on these kids. NOBODY wants the NCAA snooping around their teams and OBJ just kicked the door wide open and said come on in.

They have a few exceptions but generally it is 4 years prior to the start of the investigation.

I watched a 2nd string LSU player get several $100 bills to buy an alumni a beer at a bar. Each time he just put it in his pocket. It came from a guy wearing an LSU polo shirt. I know the player pretty well so I wouldn't ever mention his name but this stuff happens all the time everywhere.
