Weird how there are no “Blame Sumlin’ articles...

Well he did lead the Memphis Express to their epic overtime win.

The reality is obvious to anyone with perspective. The problem is threefold:

1. Jimbo got complacent and was too loyal to bad coaches. I bet even he would admit that he didn’t bring over many from his old staff to A&M.

2. FSU got cheap and expected Jimbo to win despite being behind rivals in facilities and resources.

3. Taggart was a fake gold coaching hire and was completely riding his talented assistants into getting a FSU level job.

Of course FSU fans only focus on #1 today, but one day they will want all their leaders fired for #2 and #3 too.

That seems pretty fair.

I do think the lack of discipline stuff would be the most concerning, but unless it appears at A&M it could have just been the situation.

There were "blame Fran" articles and deservedly so.

Also, the article by Jake Hubenak was definitely a blame Sumlin article.

Beyond the Money: Real Reasons Why Jimbo left FSU
quote:

Woodward recently provided part of the answer: "I'm not going to put words in Jimbo's mouth, but there are resource issues in the ACC versus the SEC."

Jimbo always wanted more and FSU was tired of "giving"

Gentlemen!

I think the main point here is that we need to give coach Taggart plenty of time to get it turned around. A nice big contract extension should be the way to go here.

I like how that article leaves out the condition Bowden left Florida State in.

Fisher was for all intents and purposes the HC while he was officially "HCIW". Bobby was going on 5 years of not even knowing the players names on the field "dadgum #22 is a special guy" and all that shite. It was actually a great move by the FSU AD, who I am loathe to credit with any success.

Jimbo got all the credibility of a HC on the recruiting trail and 2-3 years worth of on-the-job training, while Bobby took the blame for all the losses.

Then they force out Bobby and the turnaround (after 3 years of struggle) looks like magic. If Jimbo had simply taken over as HC from the beginning, he gets run out of town after 3 years.

So they allowed Florida State to deteriorate the last 3 years under Bowden to make it look like Fisher had a magical turnaround?

That makes them look even worse if true.

Your coach drove FSU into the ground and then bailed.

It’s not difficult to comprehend.

FSU had already deteriorated. Jeff Bowden's run as OC was emblematic of how hands-off and unmotivated Bobby was. Recruiting was going down. Locker room was filled with divas and nutcases because of the recruiting issues.

The AD knew they couldn't force out Bobby and also knew the team was about to hit (relative) bottom. So they let Jimbo get acclimated, piled up losses to justify forcing out Bobby, then hit the ground running.

can we all agree that if Jimbo wins 10 games this year, despite playing 4 top ten teams, we'll stop these threads?

The number of wins has nothing to do with the state of the program he’s running off the field/in the classroom.

And that is why the culture of a program matters. Those FSU players went into Jimbo’s final year hearing all sorts of rumors about him leaving (first for the LSU job potentially) and that has to take a toll on discipline. At that point Jimbo is the same a substitute teacher, here today gone tomorrow.

With that said I am not saying Jimbo didn’t frick up. How the OL was managed at FSU at his end there was a travesty and it makes me nervous about his recent OL coaching hire.

But I think it’s obvious they are trying to blame too much on Jimbo because the alternative is admitting the new guy sucks and no one wants to do that in year 2.
