Last BCS title game and broke the SEC's 7 title streak. Would have been nice if the SEC won each of the last 8 BCS titles.

Great effort by Auburn anyway in a game where few people thought they had a chance coming in.

FSU of course was QBed by a rapist.

Funny in retrospect how everybody considered Jimbo and Malzahn to be two of the best coaches in the country.

I still find that PI on 3rd and 8 at the 10 to be a pretty questionable call, although I guess it doesn't seem like as bad of a call watching the replay as I thought it was live. (And FSU would have had one more play on 4th and 8 even without that call.)

Amazing how FSU has fallen off so much since this game. Jimbo never recreated anything close to the 2013 season again (even the next year was rather unimpressive despite starting 13-0), and of course the post-Jimbo years have been a shitfest other than 2023 and to some extent 2022.

Kelvin Benjamin doesn't receive enough credit for getting through to Jimbo and bailing him out:

quote:

During the 2013 BCS National Championship Game, Florida State receiver Kelvin Benjamin was heard in the TV broadcast telling quarterback Jameis Winston that Auburn assistant Dameyune Craig, who was on the Seminoles' staff the previous year, was "calling all the plays" FSU was running. Coaches brought out towels to shield the signalers in the second half and went on to outscore Auburn 24-10 to come from behind and win. A victorious coach Jimbo Fisher acknowledged their signals were stolen -- and couldn't have cared less. "That's our fault," he said. "You've got to change them. ... That's part of the game." Fisher rehired Craig in 2017 and brought him to Texas A&M, where he remains on staff today.

Auburn was up big in that game too IIRC

Imagine what happens to the SEC's balance of power had Auburn won that game

You're talking Auburn and Bama tied 2-2 for titles from the SEC in the 2010s and maybe Malzahn and Auburn's big money donors are more committed to sustaining that momentum than what ultimately happened (fell off the next 3 seasons, returned to national relevance in 17, made noise in 19, fired Malzahn in 20, shitshow ever since; Bama remained on top through all that)

As much as LSU fans kick themselves for letting Miles then O (sans 2019) coach them out of being a dynasty in the 2010s, that's gotta suck for Auburn fans though

People don't realize how big a sleeping giant in football Auburn truly is, they have the most loyal true blue fan base who constantly make that 88,000 seat stadium rock no matter how bad the team is and they're backed by the most elite top donors in Alabama

It's criminal that the cow college let the capstone regain Alabama dominance in the 2010s and 2020s with those elements existing

Yep. Up 21-3 late 2nd Q with all the momentum.
FSU has 4th and 4 inside their own 40 and our dumbass ST coach doesn't have us in punt safe when the situation screams desperation fake punt call.
I was screaming at the TV that they were going to run a fake.

If FSU punts there, they know we are going to score again and it's over at halftime either 24-3 or 28-3 in all likelihood, at worst we are stil up 21-3. Instead, we try to block the punt and get sucked into giving up a first down run. They drove on and scored a TD, air went out of our sails, and we never got it back. That game was lost on that fake punt conversion aided by our stupid arse ST coach.

Still chaps my arse to this day.

When number 3 pulled his hamstring on the kick off return for TD, the game completely flipped momentum. That and the fake punt before halftime that everyone knew was coming except Gus
