re: From On3 insider why Ole Miss forced Lane out instead of letting him coach his team

Kiffin will still be poaching Ole Miss for the best players whether he’s coaching them in the playoffs or not. And we have Charlie Weiss, Jr. in place to help out with that.
Whatever you need to tell yourself to reduce the threat of the boogie man.

Bizarre-o. It’s the opposite of “strike while the iron is hot”. They’re left nowadays with Lane making LSU better for next year when they could have had, but don’t now have, Lane making Ole Miss better for this year.
A championship for ole miss enhances the advantage they currently hold over LSU, yet by telling him to get out, they themselves are the ones giving Lane a head start on closing that gap. Cooler heads never prevailed.

Of course an Ole Miss fan would get that wrong.

I think Ole Miss is a bigger cult than A&M. Damn they are some weirdos.

He is an offensive genius no doubt but there is a ton of smoke that leads me to believe that the narrative may be true, Believe what you want. I also know from 17 years of sobriety and sponsoring numerous newly sober individuals that his actions are not consistent with somebody working the program.
Why were y'all begging him to sign a massive extension?

And another thing. Coach “his” team? He lost the entire team over these antics the last few weeks. Told by several players to frick off

Because all of this was kept under wraps until he started playing games like flying families. There were rumors like Lebby saying he really ran the program (which I thought was sour grapes) and the “break up” prior to the UK game (which I though was Dart breaking up with his Utah GF not Kiffin and Sally). Then when he lied about certain things everything came out (ultimatums, not attending any meetings prior to the Egg Bowl, words exchanged between Golding and Kiffin, players confronting him, getting run off the road with a police escort etc…..). The icing on the cake are the Lanestien files. Y’all better find a new Tyler for him and get some preprinted NDAs for his pickleball & yoga conquests! He is your problem now and I wonder if Baton Rouge will be able to keep thing under wraps like Oxford.

?Okay, then explain why their offensive coordinator wasn't in the same boat going to a rival.... blah blah blah, and he's over there on the sideline in the playoffs?
Were they not on the same plane out of town?

Not mine or your 90 million so why do you give a frick? Oh yeah, b/c Lane is about to kick some arse here and you all know it

As an LSU fan, I 100% agree with everything that you said. I'm glad he's our coach but that's a very fair way of looking at it.

Hey thanks for that. Truly hated to see him go. Unquestionably the 6 most exciting years of my life. He will wreck shite in the SEC in BR no doubt. It’s actually kind of scary to think about as an opponent. I get what he left. Most don’t understand from an Ole Miss perspective. I grew up in Mississippi and graduated from Ole Miss. As a Mississippian I can tell you that it is very frustrating to be highly educated and professionally successful and hear some of the rationale for how these people make decisions. Growing up I was constantly told, you think too much. I have never been told that outside of Mississippi. Lane was probably aging in dog years in Oxford. He is like Mike Leach, a national treasure. I will only be rooting against him when Ole Miss plays LSU.

From a fanbase glad to see him go.. there is sure a lot of psycho ex-gf like stuff still going on.
It’s coming down to the question of “who exactly are you trying to convince?”

LSU fans in this thread taking things real hard...
They need to just own the low/no integrity qualities about how Lane handled this and stop with the “what did Lane do different from Sumrall” bit.
They need to ask themselves who they are really trying to convince.

The whole, "Lane abandoned his team" line is what's the craziest.
I honestly did not expect that level of spin from the media, but I probably don't realize how much the media dislikes LSU.
If Lane would've announced he was going to Florida - you wouldn't have seen anywhere near this reaction from the media.

Kiffin was going to recruit Ole Miss players whether he was coaching in the playoffs or not.

Right so why give him more opportunities to do so

So knowing that it was a matter of choosing the lesser of the two. On the one hand if he stayed, we could have success, but during that whole run, he would be able to solidify and increase his chances of pulling people. Also he’d slow down our recruiting at same same time.
The proof is in the pudding. We held our class together. We’ve solidified the commitment of our team and we’ve got our next head coach in place who will build momentum for next year. At this point, we just salvaged what we thought we could out of the season. I guess we’ll see how well that pays off during our playoff run and the subsequent portal. And of course, whether or not Pete Golding is the right man in the end.
Part of me would’ve liked to have seen Lane stay because I really think he would’ve given us his best chance to win this year. So I understand anyone who’s critical of what they did because it is a risk either way but one could say that it’s a better choice to leave him in place for continuity and make a playoff run.
I gotta be honest with you. I got my doubts about the way things are shaking out right now. I’m not sure that Pete is ready for the bright lights just yet. I guess we’ll find out when he manages his first football game as our head coach and see how well we play?
So basically that’s another reason for why leaving Lane in place would’ve been a good idea because number one we would’ve gotten a better playoff run and number two we could’ve taken our time on a real coaching search.
