Not enough to build a stadium.

They do report that they've averaged around 20k this season. I have heard the sports talk guys in Bhm talk many times about how UAB has been reporting ticket sales (including those given to the city of Bhm and the freebies) rather than turn-stile numbers to inflate their attendance numbers for years.

But if you are comfortable that UAB averages 20k on their own, I will have to believe you. That still doesn't warrant $75 million for a new stadium.

One would think UAT would jump at the idea of a 50k-60k stadium on campus. The BJCC & Boutwell are dumps. Legion Field is a dump. They could rack up with tons of venues and keep all monies on campus.

Tulane was averaging less than 1K at the Superdome and are now averaging around 18-20K with one home game left in a completely shitty season.

Also UAB only accounted for 16K attendance to pay back the debt owed to the UA System (not UAT).
quote:

The decision came after UAB officials completed an on-campus stadium feasibility study by athletics director Brian Mackin and vice president for financial affairs Richard Margison. The study, which was circulated to board members, included a debt service of $60 million that would be repaid over 30 years. The annual debt service payment was calculated at $3.88 million.

Projected operating revenue ranged from $5,782,723 in the first year to $6,875,635 in the 10th year. The ticket revenue portion was based on season ticket sales of 7,272 and single-game ticket sales of 16,060.

"No it didn't dumbass"

Yes it basically did. The University of Alabama School of Medicine existed IN Birmingham well before it magically became the UAB School of Medicine.

Only if you count Health Systems, which is treated as basically a fourth entity in the system due to it's size. It's revenues can't be used for football.

The new UAB president's first real action was to introduce the capital campaign, with which they intend to raise $1 billion (over halfway there, btw). The funds have already been allocated and football was not in the allocation.

The prez commissioned a study to restructure the entire university to maximize the impact of the funds, and part of the study result was a recommendation to end football.

No, it didn't. The UA Board of Trustees placed it under control of the UAB administrators.

Bear Jr is corrupt and the state of Alabama is dirt poor. None of this surprises me.

UAB is just one of many smaller programs that will be relegated downward or eliminated now that the power 5 schools have taken over control of the postseason. imho

If we truly want to do a "relegation" system, we need to pair up Power 5 conferences with non-power 5 conferences based on geography, as there are currently 10 conferences.

For example:

PAC 12/Mountain West
Big Ten/MAC
Big 12/Conference USA
SEC/Sun Belt
ACC/American

To be relegated, you have to fit the following criteria.

1. You have to have 3 or fewer wins for 2 consecutive seasons.
2. You have to finish last in your division for 2 consecutive seasons or in the bottom 2 in the case of no divisions.

To move up, you have to fit the following criteria.

1. You have to win your division 2 consecutive seasons or your conference with no divisions.
2. You have to win 10 or more games for 2 consecutive seasons.

Under this pairing and scenario, here's who would be relegated and upgraded after the results of the last 2 years:

ACC/American - N/A as the American has only had 1 season.

Big 12/CUSA - Iowa State relegated, Marshall upgraded to Big 12

Big Ten/MAC - Purdue relegated to MAC West, Northern Illinois upgraded to Big Ten West

PAC 12/MWC - No movement

SEC/Sun Belt - No movement

I thought the study is due until the end of the year or even into the first of next year? So why is the BOT acting now, especially since UAB could be getting a bowl invite?

Study results could be issued as soon as tomorrow.

I, for one, hope Watts decides to keep the program.

Also, the BOT has absolutely zero part in this, despite what the Auburn fans will tell you.

If football gets shut down, it will be on the advice of the consultants, by the UAB president, who commissioned the study for his long term strategic plan. None of this comes from the BOT.

Do not be fooled. This is the last year Bryant JR. is on the BOT and this is his pet project. He is still mad at the deceased Gene Bartow for calling out cheating.

I am not sure this story is over. I think legislation will be introduced in the senate to change the BOT. I do not think it will pass, but does the BOT really want a spotlight on how things are run (I would imagine no college BOT would like that)

They're the cash cow of the UA system, second largest employer in Alabama (if you consider the federal govt an employer) and made $3.1 billion in revenue in 2013.

The HOSPITAL brought in almost all of that money. How many hospitals have Division 1 football teams?

They had projections which included having to sell the suites out every year. They were able to get people to pledge to buy a suite for 5 years. Pledge. Not raised money.

First year in a new stadium. Give us new numbers in a few years.

They had multiple games below that even this year. If they really wanted the stadium they should have raised real money for it, not imaginary money only found in studies.

Basically all the SEC except Bama, Auburn, and State.

Well no shite, who in their right mind would right a check for a project that wasn't approved yet? That is why ppl pledge money and pay after the project is approved.

Will be higher than the Superdome that is for damn sure. Last year was toolame's best season since '02 and they had 800ppl at one game. Let that sink in 800 ppl

There is no way to raise the money if the BOT had not approved the project. If the BOT would have approved the project then they would have been able to raise the funds. LSU approved the south endzone expansion and then collected the $$ for the project from the pledges.
