As the #1 overall pick?
He's a very nice pass rusher, but he only had 4.5 non-sack TFLs last year (11.5 total).
Anderson had 16.0 non-sack TFLs last year (33.5 total).
I'm biased here and pumping up the UGA player, but Carter played 20 snaps per game last year. If you average that out to 50 snaps, it's 90 TACKLES and 22 TFLs. As a motherfrigging defensive tackle!!!
""On last year's Georgia defense, do-everything linebacker Nakobe Dean made tackles on 11.4% of his snaps," Connelly said, via his personal Twitter account. "A very high %. Meanwhile, Jalen Carter made tackles on 11.7% of his snaps. As a 310-pound nose tackle. That's unfair."

I was talking about BJ Ojulari in the post you quoted, not Carter.

He's a great player, but his pass rush win rates (on a per pass rush basis) weren't astronomically higher than others
PRP: A formula that combines sacks, hits and hurries relative to how many times they rush the passer
PRP - Defensive Tackles (2017-2021) (at least 250 pass rushes)
1. Quinnen Williams (Alabama) (2018) - 10.0 (#3 pick)
2. Christian Wilkins (Clemson) (2018) - 8.2 (#13 pick)
3. Christian Barmore (Alabama) (2020) - 7.7 (#38 pick)
4. Jalen Carter (Georgia) - 7.5 (?)
4. Siaki Ika (Baylor) - 7.5 (?)
6. Dexter Lawrence (Clemson) (2018) - 7.3 (#17 pick)
7. Javon Kinlaw (S. Carolina) (2019) - 7.1 (#14 pick)

Jalen Carter only played around 300 snaps last season total. The PRP's database is screwy, unless teams threw 80 something percent of the time against Georgia which don't sound right.

He played 396 snaps (290 in the regular season, 106 in the SECCG/Playoffs)
264 of them (66.7%) were pass rush snaps

The #1 pick this year was Travon Walker, linebacker from Georgia.
Linebacker?
He was a zero tech in about 15% of his snaps. 3 tech in about 35% of his snaps. And 4i or 5 tech in about 50% of his snaps.
He was no linebacker. If SOG called him a DT, I wouldn't have batted an eye.

He rushed the passer in 264 snaps?
264 were "passing downs"?
Or 264 were drop backs from the QB?

Barring injuries, Anderson is 100% the first defensive player drafted in the nation next year.

There is a subset called traditional drop back that eliminates screens and RPOs I believe, as well.

Von went 2nd as a LB but he ran a 4.49 40, I think if Will runs around a 4.5 or under he has a shot to go 1st

I appreciate the info.
That is one area where the scouts loved Travon Walker. He was not the primary pass rusher.
We would blitz a linebacker and drop him into zone a good bit.
Our fronts would shift before the snap. An equal amount of times, he would stunt a double team to free up the looper.
Our front 7 was selfless which basically made life miserable for offensive lines both in prep and execution. One second you have Jalen Carter at a 3 tech ready to rush the gap. Right before the snap, he is in a 5 tech carrying the tackle right into the guard and allowing one of 3 other defenders to loop clean.
As opposed to Will Anderson who was told to get the QB 85% of passing plays (not knocking Anderson or even claiming that he shouldn't be first. Just knocking the reliance on a stat against a defense that literally emphasized manufactured pressures from all angles).

Will Anderson is a Von Miller clone, I actually don’t know who Carter is but who does he play like? There is extremely high value on a LB with Will’s ability to get to a QB, Von is like 33 years old and got 100 million for that ability alone in the league at Buffalo

Poor man's Aaron Donald.
This is Jalen Carter's third season (like Anderson). If there is a year to be Aaron Donald, this would be it.
Basically, Jalen has a relentless motor, inhuman hand strength (he knocks Tennessee linemen over with his hand strike). Extremely explosive off the snap to go with those strong hands.

The reason T Walker was drafted #1 is because he was 6’5.5” 280 pounds and ran a faster 40 than several RB’s (4.47 I think).

It should be Anderson, however….you never know what the top of the draft will be. Outside of some junior coming out of nowhere it’ll be Anderson or Carter.
Posted on 8/12/22 at 7:46 am to Sgt Tuffnuts
If he stays healthy I would say Will Anderson. He should have won the Heisman last year, imo.
Jalen Carter after Anderson.
