I never played baseball, but I did the fair thing once and I think it was around 65.

I only threw a baseball one time. Threw it as hard as I could and heard what sounded like an explosion. Windows rattled, etc. Turns out, I broke the sound barrier.

I was once clocked at 186,203 miles per second on a curveball.

Is that fast?

Are you talking everyone just picking up the ball for the first time, or are you talking about the OP's assertion that anyone with proper training could do it?

Anti could only do low 80s on a very good day, but I was blessed with good movement and very good control. You were not going to get anything you wanted to hit, and you were not going to walk.

But it would have been nice to be like Nolan Ryan or someone like that, to go out there with an exploding fastball and see the fear in the bastards' eyes when they saw you walk to the mound LOL.

I was clocked at 82 in high school. No idea where it was going though. I was a weak hitting 1B. Things always got interesting at the beginning of a 3-6-3 dp. Left fielder had to be ready to try to throw the runner out at 3rd.

Sidd Finch: Fastest pitcher ever

quote:

Finch was raised in an English orphanage, learned yoga in Tibet, and could throw a fastball as fast as 168 miles per hour.

also:

quote:

The Mets gave Finch a locker between George Foster and Darryl Strawberry.[7] The three major networks, CBS, NBC, and ABC, and the local St. Petersburg, Florida, newspapers sent reporters to Al Lang Stadium for a press conference about Finch.

quote:

In April 2015, ESPN released a documentary on its 30 for 30 Shorts program[12] about the Sidd Finch phenomenon

In high school we all tried throwing as hard as possible and the fastest I was able to get was 87.
Not a pitch, just curl hopping as hard as possible.

Kid on our team was able to hit 94....when trying to actually control a pitch I was able to hit 80 at my max.

What? If a guy can't hit a 90 mph fastball he's not playing MLB unless he's a pitcher.

quote:

My fast ball was around 95 or 96 consistantly. I was once clocked at 97 and could throw strikes.

If you threw strikes at 95/96 you had to get drafted. Were these your numbers in HS?

I couldn't hit 90, but I was consistent in the upper 80's when I threw every day. Never could break 90 though. Maybe if I continued to throw, maybe, just maybe it could have happened, but I wasn't good enough at baseball for it to ever amount to anything so I didn't pursue. Loved playing though, but hated pitching. Just never did get my mechanics quite right, and never did have a good pitch other than my fastball. Coaches made me pitch some but only because I threw pretty hard. Loved Center and 3rd base. My passion was football though.
