LSU: 5 years is enough time to evaluate the new landscape of college football and figure out how to recruit high schoolers and transfer market. We should get into the playoff in that time frame.

LSU doesn't have the bankroll that Texas, A&M, and Bama have, but strong recruiting can still build some of your class. To be successful, our staff is going to have to go hard after a few recruits we desperately need, and let the bigger wallets buy the rest. The staff will have to be better talent evaluators than our neighbors, and we'll have to get really good at the transfer portal.

And bottom line, we need to learn to play a little nasty when one of ours transfers to a rival.

2018 was that season in the last 5 seasons.

Alabama will dominate until Saban retires. After that, who knows. I don’t think we will have a major decline, but it will be almost Impossible to maintain what Saban has done. We will still compete for the SEC most Years and have a shot at a national every few years, but nothing like the current run imo.

Auburn will continue to hover on the edge of disaster and right when you think they are finished, they will have a championship run. And as soon as they look like they will dominate, they will crash and burn.

Tennessee - continued herp and derp.

Yeah the talent in and around Louisiana is second to none. With the right coaching staff y’all are elite.

We have a brand new coach. I’m just gonna sit back and let the next three seasons unfold before making concrete judgements.

Yes, a better team than whoever got 4th.

Arkansas: Sam Pittman will still be here but will have a new OC and DC. Average 8 wins a season with multiple bowl wins.

I don’t expect a run like Saban has going but Bama is not going anywhere when Saban retires. We’ll hire a great coach. I guarantee you they have a plan in place.

Eh.

1. What "great coaches" are available out there?

2. Why would they want to leave what they have for Alabama and the pressure of following Saban?

A lot of Alabama fans just expect a really good coach to succeed Saban but at best, hiring a coach is a major crapshoot.

The most proven guy you'd have a shot at (by far) is Dabo and that's only because he played at Alabama and it's doubtful if his style would work in the SEC.

After him, who really is there?

I don’t think Alabama’s commitment to winning falls off at all. Alabama’s challenge going forward are the things outside their control like the schools that have equal resources….but most importantly, the same commitment now to winning.

Georgia was one of the four best teams in cfb at the end of 2018.

And Georgia did NOT deserve to be in the 2018 playoff in my opinion.

And that’s the problem with this 4 “best” team horse sheet. At some point the on field objective results need to matter the most.

Everybody likes to say BAMA will fall off when Saban retires but I don’t see it. I’m curious as to who y’all replace him with.

Fall off is a relative term. I don’t think they will fall to .500 like LSU did under O. Hell, I don’t think they will fall to an 8 win team. I think they will “fall” to a 9 win floor and float between 9-11 regular season wins with routine better seasons.

Yeah, but we got raided in 2022 and the same is happening with this class. Remains to be seen if the recruiting failures are more due to the completely brand new staff or just being able to buy recruits.

Jacoby Mathews, for example, wanted to come to LSU, but he couldn't pass up the money A&M offered. You can't ask boosters for much after we've spent 9 figures on new coaches across multiple sports,so we'll have more NIL money in the future, but personally, I hope our staff is smart and spends more of that money on keeping our best players and getting in transfers than it does on unproven 18 year olds. The transfer portal will be rich.

Jimbo said that's bull. They didn't buy any recruits.

As long as there are people willing to pay. I just hope LSU doesn't get that stupid. You give $2mil to an 18 year old just to see him transfer out the next spring? Nah. Let him go somewhere else for that much, see how good he is, then offer him the crazy money to come play for you.

Most of our dark years were due to NCAA sanctions and loss of scholarships.

Everybody seems to "conveniently" forget this.
We got hit severely with sanctions in 95 and again in early 2002. The sanctions are actually double what the years are because it take that same amount of time to build back up to a full roster after the sanctions end. People tend to think we hired DuBose and Shula because we thought he was the best candidates. Wrong. In 95 Bama was set to hire Rick Nuheisel to replace Stallings and Butch Davis to replace Dubose in 2001. Both found out the sanctions would be severe and went elsewhere.Bama wouldn't have been Saban Bama but they wouldn't have been 6-6 either. Probably in the 10 win range with SEC titles in 99, 2002, 2005.

With that said, Bama will be Bama the next 5 years, missing the playoffs once and two more titles. Barring the NCAA again the Tide will still be a force after Saban as they have been since college football began.

Aub will be Aub. Out of nowhere season a couple years and 5 wins when they are expected to be a title contender.
