Expansion - UT and OU
Posted by 3rddownonthe8

So I knew the GOR didn’t end till 2025, but I thought the exit fee was if they left before then as well. I didn’t know they both would have to pay in excess of 60M even if they waited till the end of the current media deal.
Damn!
That’s a-lot of money.
Especially considering the current B12 deal only pays, 31M per year. I know Texas has it, but does OU?

UT has been in the SEC since its inception.

Not sure you want to do a poll on that.

I'd like the conference to just pay it off and get them here next year. New schedules, basketball, baseball. All good stuff and opportunities when they join.

Actually they will pay $60-80M (depending on negotiations) even if they leave in 2025, that is planned and OU can afford it. That has always been a given. If they leave before the TV deal has ended they risk paying a total that is well into the $100M range, likely around $110-120M. I've always thought that this was not worth it, unless ESPN got involved. It is clear that neither Texas OR OU wants to pay that, it's just not in their best interest. For instance, T4&8 and Mizzou paid $12.41M back in 2011, which is peanuts in comparison even when adjusted for inflation.

And that was after the Big 12 tried to appease Texas A&M by giving them Nebraska’s slice of the pie from the previous year.
They took the money and still left. Class move by the cannon shooters.

It’s not really in anyone’s interest for them to join before playoff expansion.

Seems like OU "could" make the $60M deal happen if pressed, but would heavily prefer not to from everything I've seen.
Revenue losses in the covid season makes things tighter for pretty much every program short of a small handful.

In the SEC footprint, it goes like this
UT = Vols, Charter SEC school and currently down
TU = Green Wave, Charter SEC school now no longer but remembered
VU = Dores, SEC creator and the team that made Utx quit
Utx = nutless cow college in austin with "all hat, no cattle" type ego

Expansion? What we need 'round here is come contraction, am I right? Get them yankee lib-ur-al Missourah Tigers the hell on out of here. What do they even add? We already have some proper Tigers in this conference. I'll tell you what they add: a poop swastika. I never been outside of my hometown, but I can tell you hand on my heart that Columbia, Missourah is the worst place in the whole U-nited States and its existence is an affront to all proper southerners. And don't look at them electoral maps or read any history about that state because they are full of leftist lies.

You forgot to add "That way we can kick Mizzou out of the SEC."
So I thought I would add it in there for you.

I thought we were getting out of paying since the B12 is solidifying a new media deal before we exit. It was my understanding that if they even began discussions, that both teams could leave without paying.
