Yes. They are going out on a limb

The other teams also in the mix are Ohio State, Iowa State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Here are the four likely combinations, according to ESPN’s FPI:

If Clem, Bama, Ohio & OU make the playoffs I will probably stop caring about the playoffs entirely

Oklahoma will defeat Iowa State twice to win the Big 12. The other three spots will consist of Clemson, Ohio State, and the winner of the Alabama-Georgia game in Atlanta.

Stuck in your head. Next to the NPC file that blurts out, “LSU ain’t on my mind, no, not never.”

Clemson and Ohio State are in.

A&M, UGA and possibly one other team outside Bama have a shot from the SEC.

Oregon in the PAC12 has a shot.

OU and Iowa St.

That’s it, 7 teams playing for two spots, 3 of whom make it routinely.

The reality is CFB has gotten stale because no one in the middle tier is challenging the powerhouses in two conferences right now.

SEC is entertaining because teams not named Bama often win it, even though Bama is the most dominant team of the modern era.

UM, Penn State and someone in the ACC need to step up or we will continue to get what we’ve had.

Ohio State is getting close to Clemson's status as a shoo-in for the playoff. Back in 2015, Michigan State was a playoff contender and later Penn State won the B1G championship but got left out for OSU. Today, OSU looks like a one-horse race.

I'd say they are already there. Their recruiting has been such that it will take a monumental let-down by the coaching staff and players to lose a game in that conference. There isn't any other program in the Big Ten that is currently recruiting anywhere close to the likes of Ohio State and that includes Michigan. Though their road is a little harder than that of Clemson's, Ohio State has the second easiest path to the playoffs after them.

In order for Alabama to make the playoffs, they have to plow through a schedule of at least four or five other programs that consistently recruit in the Top 10-15 year in and year out. But that also goes for every other top program in the SEC.

Water is wet. Alabama is going to be great again. Clemson is going to be really good and have a cakewalk in conference.

With the new transfer rule, it will only get worse.
