Well Kentucky's paying Mark Stoops $10 million/year to be a career .500 coach...

But Penn State's probably the right answer. Solid in state/adjacent talent, great resources/facilities, no in state competition, rural location with limited player distractions, relatively complacent fanbase. They've essentially only had 5 coaches since WWI...LSU & Georgia are also easy for the same reasons as long as you're competent, fanbases are a little less patient though

I'd have to say kansas. They don't really give a shite about football and you can rake in millions of dollars for at least a few years.

If our OC had let Stroud win the game for us.

This used to be the way it was at kentucky but stoops screwed that up for himself by winning and raising expectations.

That’s fair but the OP was about easiest jobs. I think the states that are the only major university and also don’t have major college football powers recruiting around them are the easiest.

Oregon and Ohio State fit that.

I have always thought UGA and LSU have the greatest recruiting advantages

Bryan Day is 1-3 in the CFP without Chip Kelly - including a loss to Smart - lone win was in front of 3K COVID fans in New Orleans -

Chip Kelly left to go back to the NFL this past off-season -

Coaching is the easiest job on earth. Like you say they get paid an obscene amount of money and even if they’re a colossal failure they’re wealthy beyond their wildest dreams. And for what? It’s a fricking game.

No, it’s not.

Yes, major college head coaches make an obscene amount of money, but it generally takes countless hours of work to get to that point. And there will never be a time when you can cut back. Tom Cruise might decide to do one movie every three years and take some time to chill and still produce a great movie every once in a while when he feels like it. A Fortune 500 CEO might conduct business on his yacht in the Mediterranean. A major college coach can’t do all that shite. He has to keep grinding or the competition will catch him. Very little down time.

And that’s just major college ball. High school and small college coaches do not make big bucks. And if they get fired, they have to figure out how to pay the mortgage.

Once more; it’s a game. No one is gonna die, a bridge isn’t going to collapse, no one will be even a shred more than minimally irritated or inconvenienced if a freakin football team doesn’t do well. It’s a game. Fortune 500s are essential to the economic health of our country and probably the planet. A football team is not

I would think the hardest part of the job for any major D1 coach is dealing with the constant demands on your time from wealthy entitled alumni that think they have a solid bead on all things football.

Notre Dame, hands down.

Play Rutgers and Western Michigan, and make the playoffs. The name and history recruits itself.

Arkansas football coach.

We’ll give you a raise and extension for fairly mediocre results. We really just ask that you don’t go winless in conference play or get caught doing certain things on a motorcycle.

It’s a pretty low bar.
