From this point, onward.

Everyone laugh at Auburn right now. We certainly deserve it.

But, the next time anyone in the SEC tries to offer a coach millions upon millions of dollars to do an unpredictable job...at least be clear about the circumstances of not fulfilling your obligations that were "promised."

Pinky swears and fist-bumps only go so far.

You should be paid for production...like everyone else in America.

OVERPAY

That’s in the eyes of the beholder/employer.
If a university is willing to pay, and the coach does the job, it’s not necessarily overpaying (*see Saban/Alabama).

LSU isn't overpaying anyone on its staff. Auburn made a very stupid decision to offer gus frickin malzahn that long term contract with that huge buyout. Yall are fricked now and I don't see Yall being able to get rid of him for a couple more years, no matter what your fans and boosters say right now. We will see about that when it comes time for them to put up or shut up. I just don't see it happening bc auburn will find a way to justify giving him one more year to make sure they aren't just wasting the money buying him out to not coach for auburn...when in reality, they wasted the money the moment he signed that contract lol. Everyone knew Gus wasn't worth a contract like that.

Money isn't the issue here.

Who in the SEC is poor?

You must have very odd investment strategies.

Nobody has been as cheap as Florida, but after 10 years of suckitude, we had to do it. I do however, see us going back to our cheapskate, young coach hiring ways again if Merlins is successful enough over a long period of time to make us forget 3 out of the last 4 that we hired.

but he promised to coach your team. Nobody can guarantees a minimum number of wins. Nobody. Gus did not promise he would never have a losing year, or bad year.

I agree. but Auburn chose to pay him what they are paying him.

Contracts should be incentives based on production.

Pay the guy more money for the year but reduce the buyouts.....make everybody have skin in the game. Only a GD idiot would have OK'ed a contract for Malzone for 30+ million. Then again Beating Bama is what the cow college runs on down there.

Malzahn will be alright. He is just having a bad year. He is still better than most of the coaches in the SEC.

Exactly.

Produce for a fair rate or be replaced.

The lucrative selling point is that college football coaches are guaranteed millions of dollars to begin with.

I have no problem with that.

Don't push it though. Earn it just like everyone else.

You are already rich the second you take the job. Your "security" arguments are a slap in the face to everyone else that works a full-time job in America.

I have no pity for people like that.

You have a lucrative job, so do it. Step aside if you can't.
