Denny’s is basic but has good variety. I’ve never had a bad experience. Waffle House I’ve tried a few times in different years the last five years and it’s the same blah experience. Maybe the tastes are different in the south? I don’t know.
I've spent a ton of time in Oklahoma...you should stick to what you do best...Steaks and Tabbouleh. I had excellent lunch and dinner when I was in Oklahoma...but I never had a single memorable breakfast.
ETA...I spent a ton of time in Tulsa...while Mahogany was fine...I could never see why anyone would rank it above The Spudder or Jamil's. Those were two kickass steakhouses.

Waffle House is garbage.
Cracker Barrel, Denny’s, Black Bear Diner are all way better choices.
WTF? This isn’t about better choices. I’m sure Noma in Denmark is a better choice, but I bet the you’re not going to get the Waffle House experience.

No matter what Waffle House I have eaten at I can order their bad steak medium rare and by god is is done perfectly each time. Same with their eggs, always consistent no matter what Waffle House I dine in and no matter the time of day.

this guaranteed consistency, one can clinically

Man, don't go bad-mouthing the Waffle House. WH is a cultural experience. They have the best grilled chicken sandwich in town. The sausage, bacon and eggs are always consistent. I am not a big fan of anyone's waffles. I love their ice tea, mixed half and half, sweet and unsweet.

Both do and has been mentioned Sonic is HQ'd in Oklahoma - there's a ton of them in Texas and Oklahoma. I actually didn't realize until looking at it how prevalent they were in the southeast.
I love Waffle House - you can't go wrong. I remember the first time I ate at one when I was a teenager I was out of town with my girlfriend's family in Oklahoma. Older guy at the bar had lost his wife the day before. Tells you something about how much going to that Waffle House (probably every day I bet) meant to him. Seemed like something straight out of a movie.
I don't get the Sonic hype here I have to say. In my opinion I see it as a drink stop only. If I had to rank burgers, sides, breakfast...any of it, it's all at the bottom of the fast food chain in my opinion. Burger King is worse, that's about it. I don't know why Whataburger hasn't expanded with a greater density of units in the SE. 24/7, good food, not fancy/you know what you're getting, consistent...seems like it would fair well but it's pretty sparse between Texas and parts of Florida. Only sprinkles of stores in Louisiana, Miss, Alabama, etc.
Denny's decades ago was respectable and was a great stop on a road trip for breakfast, etc. That chain has gone to shite over the last few decades - not even close to what it was. Love Cracker Barrel but to me that's comparing apples and oranges - just a different concept really.

I feel the same. Drink stop only. Their food sucks. Whataburger and Braums food are both superior.
I like Waffle House. Spent many nights there in high school and college when they had the all you can eat trying to sober up. I don't really understand the fight over the chain breakfast places. Fried eggs, bacon, and hash browns are pretty much the at any of them. I think they all use the same gravy because it all taste similar to me.
My Granny and Mom cooked biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage, and bacon every morning. None of those places could ever compare to their cooking so they're all just kind of okay to me.

Does Norman or austin have a Waffle House? by auggie
So, they don't have steaks or country ham, and no omelettes and the hash browns are chunk style instead of shredded. Do they have a bar that you eat at and watch your breakfast getting cooked?
Waffle house is #1, Waffle King is second place, Huddle house comes in 3rd.
Wut? They have country ham, and shredded hashbrowns, and omelettes, (and cheese grits), I don't know about steak.
Yeah they have the open kitchen/grill and some seats at the bar if you want to sit there.

I did a quick glance at the menu. I saw "ham" but not "country ham" on the meat list. There is a big difference, and one of the most disappointing things in the world, is for the waitress to tell you that they have country ham, but then when your breakfast gets there, it's just regular fried ham. I didn't see steaks, and the hash browns pictured were the square chunk ones.

Yeah I know what you're talking about. Jimmy's egg is just a solid breakfast place. It's not the queens tits or anything but you wont leave mad. Those chunk potatoes are called papa's and it's just an option for when they ask what kind of potatoes you want.
The ham looks like this.

Agree on Jamil's, it is excellent!!
As for my experiences with Waffle House, I've had great food and service at some locations but awful at others. Overall it is good.

Yes, this happened to me
Got damn I love the SEC!

Man, I love Braums, especially the little market inside some of them. They have some really great cheese for sale in there.
I wish we had some of those around here.

Yeah, that's regular ham. What we call country ham, is a salt and sugar cured, delicious and dangerous delicacy that doesn't need refrigeration, and will kill you quick if you eat too much of it. It really has to be cooked very hot and burned a bit. I love it, but I only allow myself a little bit every couple of weeks.
