You guys are the reason there are participation trophies rewarding losers the same as winners. You refuse to hold people to a standard of excellence. Milroe is a TANK. He would make an awesome TE. But come on, now. Be honest

Milroe is a happy footed tight end that can not read a defense, his first thought is to run and seldom has a second thought. The only position that was worse last year was the dude snapping the ball.

Except for him throwing for 2,834 yards, 23 TDs, 6 INTs, and ending the season with the 9th ranked QBR in the country, you are exactly right.
quote:
That’s pretty average these days, and that’s where I think Milroe is. A fairly average SEC qb. He also “led” Alabama to the # 70 passing offense in the nation last year
I don’t have a dog in this fight, but if you replace “tight end” with “wide receiver” in the first post of this exchange, it could pass for a thread on the Tiger Rant at this time last year.
I’m not saying Milroe is going to win a Heisman, but I think some of y’all might be a little overly critical of a first-year starter.

Blake Barnett was a 5 star and god awful. Never started at any lesser programs.

He’s a Joe Milton who runs

OK I can agree with that statement wholeheartedly, but pondering on whether he has the best potential of anyone who’s ever played the position for us, ever? That was a stretch IMO.

He has a lot of potential, and he might take a leap under DeBoer. Michael Penix sure did.
I think DeBoer is a very good coach. Whether it was DeBoer or the OC that made the offense so good remains to be seen, but I'm leaning toward it being DeBoer. Mizzou fans saw how much better the Tigers got offensively when one of DeBoer's former coaches took over our offense.

For comparison Carson Beck
Is 0-1 against Milroe as a starting quarterback

The Mizzou OC often gets overlooked on the Coach DeBoer coaching tree. But who the BAMA OC is will become painfully clear soon enough.

Did milroe ever pass 200+

He threw for 321 against the “vaunted” Texas A&M defense.

No confidence in milroe

ou are acting like these numbers are meh, but they really aren't, especially in Rees's offense. They were good, not great
Averaging 215-230 passing yards a game is "meh" at best in any offense, aside from a pure triple-option attack.
Milroe averaged 218 passing yards a game last year I believe.

I guess it is in 2024, but those numbers are about on par with AJ McCarron and Jake Coker which were "good" to me. And Milroe didn't have nearly as much help in the run game, pass protection, or WR as those guys.

It's easier to have sufficient pass protection when you can hit a simple slant route... which Milroe cannot do

Bama fans love beating the shite out of Jalen Milroe & it's hard to understand why.
He made steady improvement over the course of last season. Everyone says he's by far the hardest working & most dedicated guy on the team. Dude is big & strong & fast & has a good arm. He's a smart guy with a good personality. He does have the potential to make a huge leap as a dual threat now that he has upgraded offensive coaching staff.
Still, Bama fans say he's the worst QB we've had in 15 years & clamor for Ty Simpson bc he made a sidearm throw for 10 yards in the spring game.

AJ McCarron had Eddie Lacy, TJ Yeldon, Kenyan Drake and Derrick Henry as RB's to hand the ball off to.
Jake Coker had peak Derrick Henry (2200 yards rushing) and Drake to hand the ball off to.
Milroe had Jase McClellan, Roydell Williams and... well himself... to hand the ball off to.
The reality is the quality of RB for Coker and McCarron warranted passing less. The guys at Bama last year were pretty good, but there's no Derrick Henry or Eddie Lacy there. I'm not sure there's even a TJ Yeldon caliber back there.
I think there's a difference between choosing to pass less because your team has beastly RB's, and having to pass less because your passing game isn't where you'd like it.
Now that being said, the WR talent IS a big part of it. Last year's WR group at Bama was the weakest they've had in at least a decade, maybe longer. They were forced to take a #2 WR and make him a #1 not because he was good enough, but because they had no other choice. It wasn't good the year before with Bryce Young either, but he covered it up because he was an elite QB.
The problem is it doesn't look much better this year. Burton and Bond are gone (their two leading WR's last season) as well as their #3 pass catcher in Niblack the TE.
Their top 2 returning producers at WR are Prentice (314 yards) and Law (135 yards). They brought in a transfer from Washington who had 419 yards last year. The rest of the newcomers are true freshmen and redshirt freshmen.
It doesn't look promising that he'll have more WR help this season than last.

quote:Are you including the ones he threw to Miami players? At one point he had more completions to Miami players than ours I think.
Jay Barker “led” Alabama to a national title his redshirt freshman year. He completed 4 passes for 19 yards in the title game.
