No it isn’t. If you had four teams from final four all from the east Coast and it was played in Arizona it would be full

It has several problems. Saban and somehow Dabo being head and shoulders above everyone else is obviously not good for the sport. Bama certainly and to a degree even Clemson fans are somewhat indifferent at this point. Sure it's obviously still fun and exciting when your team is good but it definitely loses a lot of its luster at some point.

Yea if you put the game in Atlanta or NO and it's not too inconvenient they'll make that trip but not many people are thirsty enough to go out of their way to California to watch bama and Clemson play again.

Couple that with minmial local interest and almost no national appeal and you have this scenario.

The rest of the coaches need to get it together and put some excitement back in CFB.

Yes. It is. You're depending upon four different fanbases to fill a smaller venue, along with corporate tickets (and there are a ton for NCAA Tournament games).

There is also a difference in basketball parity from the East coast to the West coast in comparison to football. You have schools like Gonzaga, UCLA, Arizona, etc. who are just as likely to make a deep tournament run as a Syracuse, Duke, UNC, etc.

God damn there are a lot of people in this thread ignoring the crystal clear story that the numbers genro posted are telling. If the game site is within driving distance of at least a portion of the participating teams’ fanbases, the ticket prices are through the roof. If it isn’t, then ticket prices are low. Look at Alabama-Clemson in 2016 vs. Alabama-Clemson in 2017. In 2016 Clemson had a shot at a championship for the first time in decades and so presumably their fans would have been super fired up to go to the game, but ticket prices were actually $1500 lower than the game between the same teams the following year. Why? Because it costs near about that much to fly round trip to see a game in Arizona, but it’s a relatively easy drive from either Bama or South Carolina to Tampa. College football is a national sport played by regional teams with the exception of Notre Dame. If Oklahoma and USC played for the title in Atlanta, I wouldn’t pay $250 for a ticket. I’m not a fan of those teams. This isn’t rocket science.

I don't like the playoff games being at Neutral sites (1 and 2 should get home field) and I wish the CF Playoff Title game would just rotate like the BCSCG used to between the Orange, Rose, Sugar, and Fiesta.

I personally feel the disparity in TV contracts between various conferences is widening the gap of people who don't care.

And when the PAC 12 gets crapped and disrespected by various networks. After a couple of years of that plus the PAC 12 being weak for almost the last decade, it's probably starting to take a toll on the fans.

The narrative is already being set for next season, Clemson and Alabama will be almost guaranteed a playoff spot in the preseason rankings, and the rest of college football will be fighting for the 3 and 4 spot. And even if say Clemson ends up sucking, the bias and tone is already set in stone. And fans outside the South are probably tired of that.

Just glad the Thunder are killing it right now, it helps after the college season. PG13, Westbrook, and Adams keep Oklahoma sports pretty exciting in the offseason.

And it doesn't bother me where the games are played, the future NFLers have to get ready for harsh climates (Buffalo or anything up north).

I'm fine with the games being rotated around the country.

At least it's in NOLA next year.
Vegas would be another good site once the Raiders stadium is ready.

Look at California sports in general... College football and basketball are both dumpster fires, NFL teams leaving, the Lakers were bad post Kobe and mediocre w/Lebron, and the clippers look okay, but will wilt by post season. The Rams are off this week, but they only average 72,000 in a 79,000 seat stadium.

It's just a bad location for a southern and east coast team to meet. If the game were in or East of Dallas, it would be harder to get ticket.

WOW!

Had no idea venue was THAT much more important than matchup relative to ticket sales/prices.

Thanks for posting.

Well $1500 airfare and $300/night hotel rooms will do that. San Fran was probably the worst place in the country to hold this game and the ticket prices reflect that. I bet the game won’t even be full and if you can make it there you will find free tickets easy.
