The guy acting as MC during timeouts I might could do without, but I love the light show. The atmosphere at the LSU game was great... nothing beats a night game atmosphere.
So much better than the era of hearing the band play Basketcase ad nauseam for a decade too long.

I would argue that Saban wants exactly what you sense. He wants an NFL type stadium and continues to try to keep up with what NFL stadiums do. Especially during down times when TV commercials are taking place.

I dunno, atmosphere this year for big games has been awesome.
There was a spoiled factor for a few years, along with games being over before they started, but Texas, Tennessee and LSU has been awesome atmospheres. A ton of fun. Loud, packed, engaged. As fun a season at home as I've had in the stadium since 2014 or 2015.
As for the stadium itself, the main parts of it are nice enough but they aren't in the same realm as Jerry World or the Falcons stadium. They've done solid upkeep and it's an aesthetically pleasing stadium from the outside, but the lower bowl and upper decks for general seating are just nice and solid, nothing fancy.
The biggest issue in terms of noise and atmosphere it has is that the seats on the sides are so far back from the field itself. There's nothing they can do about that, so it kind of is what it is.

I don’t like it. The stands are too far away from the field and the seats fade away from the field. Not the best to hold in noise.
Coleman is awful too.
As far as atmosphere..I think Bama fans have gotten spoiled by success and this season where not every game is guaranteed has kinda humbled some of our fans. The atmosphere was sadly better under Shula than it was under Saban. But this year it was definitely better

Do they still have the chain link fence in the stadium? Yes, it's been a while since I've been to BDS.

It's a nice arse stadium. Atmosphere isn't as electric as some of the others though.

Saban was adamant about the piped-in music back when he first arrived because he said it really appealed to recruits. I can't argue because it seems to have worked.

I don't take offense and neither should anyone else. It does look like an NFL stadium almost and I actually like that. Every college has it's staple and uniqueness...ours is basically that we're NFL lite.
The crowd has stepped their game up, though. Tennessee and LSU games this year were both insanely loud. The atmosphere was incredible.

It definitely feels more pristine, top tier college level stadium because of the bleachers.
If it had seats it would 100% feel like an NFL stadium.

I hate it. The lights make me feel like an epilepsy fit is incoming at any moment. The noise is just that: noise. It's one thing for the crowd to make it, but the relentless drone of someone's playlist seriously detracts from the enjoyment of the game. To me it's the gameday experience equivalent to that old lady in the neighborhood who thought that concrete boy fishing was so nice that she covered the entire yard in gnomes, concrete turtles, and plastic flamingos.
The beer sales mean idiots are traipsing up and down the steps all during the first half - stopping, of course, to watch a big play, right in front of you. Then, they're up and down to piss during the second half, stopping again whenever the game action appears to warrant.
Not against having a beverage during a game, but bring a flask so you don't have to piss every ten minutes and if you have a peanut bladder, you don't get to stop and watch the play while running shuttlecocks to the shitter.
I'm sure the younger folks enjoy the ADHD-appeasing environment but it makes me want to throw up and I don't care to ever go back to another game in BDS.

Went to BDS this year. Great environment. I do feel much for of an NFL vibe being in there.

Look, anytime you wish to return play at the neutral location of Legion Field, I can guarantee the oldest, most primitive college environment you can play in.
I get the gist of what the OP is saying. Stadiums can get so nice and "corporate" to the point they can feel sterile like a new outdoor NFL stadium. I wouldn't go as far as wanting to trade out BDS for a more college feel though. It has been into a beautiful palace befitting a legendary program
Having said that and speaking to the OP's point, the one and only thing I do miss about a stadium like Legion Field for example is the grading of the seating. Legion Field is and was a dump compared to BDS but LF was loud as f### with the steep seating grade and the metal seating that created an intensity of noise that is difficult to duplicate in BDS. BDS can absolutely get loud but not at the intensity of noise I remember big games at LF producing. Granted, the entire gameday experience at BDS on its worse day is a million times better than at LF but I do miss the intensity of crowd noise at LF if that makes any sense.

I remember going to games at Legion Field when I was a kid. Everyone in the upper deck would stomp their feet to make additional noise. I remember it sounded kind of like thunder and the entire upper deck would shake. Kid me was terrified that the whole thing was about to collapse.
Then I got older and found out that the whole thing was, in fact, about to collapse.
