No, I do not.

College football was much more fun when VOLS were a reputable program.

Along these same lines, the RPO bullshite is what has depleted the entire SEC. The SEC was always known for big, physical defense, but now we have to have WRs playing LB to track down all of the screens and fakes.

Spread is easy to teach and more flexible for pure athletes. Thats why its so popular. Its really hurting the NFL though. QB play is way down.

Btw I blame all of this on Gus Malzahn and the 2013 Aulmost Tigers. He ran through the entire SEC with a CB playing QB. It made a lot of programs re-evaluate wtf cfb had become

Just wanting to set a place holder in this thread, cause it may hard to find where I left off if not. Ha.

Great read so far. Lots of good stuff. And totally agree with so many. Love reading great thoughtful threads with minimal arguments. Of course the first negative one came from a pos clemson fan. Ha.

Good stuff yall!

Saban said it best several years back talking about the no-huddle RPO offense - "Is this what we want cfb to be?"

The game of football in both the college rankes and the pros have shifted throughout the decades from this to that. If this is truly what college football has become, then Nick Saban got the answer to his question.....

I'm ok with less spread, but No to this. I watch college because it isn't a carbon copy of the NFL. If you want different offenses then bring back the Wishbone, and Veer.

LSU doesnt, but you guys knew that already...

(Most kids are just not ready to step and call plays)

Well, they could some years back. I guess that went out the door with "readin, writin, and rithmetic".

The game has been dominated by a handful of teams as long as college football has existed. And byy and large it's the same teams now as in the 1920's.

I love college football as much as the next guy, but these 4 hour games are getting out of hand.

They need to adopt NFL rules on play clock

The Bone and the Veer evolved when teams caught up with the T formation. The T formation (with man in motion) was developed because teams had caught up with the Single & Double Wing. These developments happened organically as coaches analyzed trends and changes in football.

The spread offense is a joke. It and its HUNO component are based on referees not calling holding, offensive PI or pick plays. It might seem exciting especially if you are 12 years old. But the outcome is what you saw last year in the Bama Clemson game. Clemson was given free reign to do whatever they wanted to on offense.

The refs decided last years' champion. And instead of being alarmed most people stuck their thumbs up their arses and said that's fine. Alabama wins too much anyway.

Disagree completely. One of the best things about college football is watching it evolve over time.

I am thankful that I never...i mean rarely have to watch those boring "Lloyd Carr" type offenses anymore.

I'm fine with all of it other than Saban single handedly killing the SEC.

I think you are totally wrong about this. The key to spread offenses (and let's call Leach type systems "Air Raids" to differentiate them, even though they do spread the field and are called spreads) is the run/pass option.

That simple. Have that in and it is problematic, or at least a very bad idea to double cover. And take away double coverage and there really isn't a lot of defensive scheming you can do to shut down an offense. It's just who makes plays.

The throws you get with a true run/pass qb are just plain easier than a qb dropping back having to throw into tight coverages gets.

One or two reads isn't a bug, it is a feature. You no longer have to have a guy with a positronic brain and a rocket launcher for an arm to actually run your offense and use all your playbook.

This isn't de-evolution. It's actually the next step. I don't think it is going back.

As to why you don't see it in the NFL, I think there is more going on there than meets the eye.

The current system is set up for some qb to be "The guy." Not just because pro coaches are conformist creatures of habit (they are), but that's what the fan base has come to expect, and it's the way the market the game and players.

Back when Tebow had some big games running the ball in Denver, I came up with another model. Carry like 4 qb's, and pay and play them more like running backs. I would have quite literally run qb power 40 times in a game against the Baltimore Ravens if I could get yards. I wouldn't have one qb with that many carries, but I would call that play over and over if it was working.

I guess this is where we might really disagree. My guess is you think run/pass is a gimmick, and the pro guys with uniformly great athletes and coaches that grind film for a living will auto-shut it down.

But there are film grinders on offense, and the same kind of athletes on offense. Think it's a wash, and you go right back to the fact you can basically throw double coverage out the window. If the qb is a true run threat the defense can't play 11 on 10 in the run game any more.

Anyway my two cents.

I think its going back the other way. LSU specifically. Chavis had us go through some very small LB's. Now we are getting size back in our front 7.

I also think with our more of a pro-style, we can control the pace and tempo. LSU's time of possession has been really good. Once we get consistent QB play, I will really enjoy the LSU product.
