Arkansas runs a very smart scheme for a team without a lot of back end talent. They basically force the QB of the other team to be patient and smart and consistently make the right throw and decision. That works against probably 75% of the teams they will play.

The problem is, against the 2-3 teams that have QBs who can both do that and have WRs who can beat that zone deep, plus can punish them enough in the run game, they will get absolutely shredded. However, they'd get shredded by those teams REGARDLESS of what they did.

Still, seems like a pretty sound overall plan to me.

Arkansas has dick for talent on defense right now. He’s doing great given what he has to work with. The only reason we’re having this discussion is because Hog fans were too euphoric after OM to believe it when everyone told them their defensive numbers were a house of cards supported by the most unpredictable stat in football, TO margin.

These people believed a white walk on freshman corner was a superstar for a week, until he got dick slapped by about 6 different players over the next few weeks. The issue is with their expectations, not Odom. He’s doing fine.

Georgia has probably about as good of a defense as anyone and has given up 41 and 44 to Bama and UF respectively.

Stopping them is just not happening

He's doing the best he can with what he has. Don't get me wrong, we've got some awesome guys on the defensive side of the ball. Catalon, Foucha, Pool, Morgan, etc. But we have very little depth otherwise. We've got former 2* and 3* recruits, walk-ons, etc. This is a team that has been curbstomped every game for the last three seasons. A team full of players who had no idea how to win. The fact that we're even sniffing .500 this year is a tribute to coaching. The scheme we play gives us the best chance to win with the players we have, but like other commenters have said, we can get exposed by great passers and by teams with good O-lines. Sure, it hurts to get blown out by Florida or TAMU or anyone, but the fact that this year was always going to be a work in progress and the fact that we are so far ahead of everyone's expectations means we Hog fans are okay with occasionally getting beat by a clearly superior team.

In short, bad attempt at trolling is bad.

For a chance at a good/great defense in this league, it seems like one of the biggest factors is what you can rotate in and out on the defensive line. I'm not sure Odom/Pittman feel good about more than 3-4 D linemen, let alone another 7-8 or so to swap in and out.

We jumped 50 spots in total team D even with those blowouts.
This is after a year of shite recruiting and players leaving.

It's sad that aTm is finally in contention and still worried about us. WOW

I don’t think a lot of people have thrown around the word genius. Pretty sure he’s been called a very good defensive coordinator. Because he is.

Still a solid DC but made a very stupid decision not going for the 4th and short on their
2nd possession in the 2nd half.

Game was over with that decision.

I don’t really think it has to do with not getting turnovers as much as it was the fact we faced 2 of the top 3 QBs on our schedule in Mond and Trask. We did fine against Guarantano despite only getting 2 turnovers. We’ll see how we do against LSU and Missouri coming up, both with young QBs.

Has nothing to do with turnovers. Both INTs we got against Tennessee were irrelevant. One came on 4th down that would have been a turnover anyway and the 2nd one came on the last play of the game. They still only scored 13 and 0 all 2nd half.
