Seems like it was, in no particular order:

Alabama
Auburn
LSU
Tennessee
Georgia
Florida

Do the newcomers change this at all?

I think not. frick them kids.

I've only ever heard it used on this forum and don't really think it has much merit.

However, I think they have to at least win a SEC championship before they would be considered for such a thing.

I don't see a single SEC championship in their win column so far.

Check my math.

But Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Florida and Alabama have all won titles since OU and Texas. Right? LSU, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama have won MULTIPLE titles since OU lucked out against FSU.

Tennessee is the only laggard here...from a "big six" perspective.

We don't have to adjust shite.

Alabama is still the King of this conference.

It only meant something when the original 2 divisions were created. Not so sure it matters anymore.

Did Texas or OU win the SEC sometime since 1964?

If yes, they’re Big Six. Otherwise no

If they deserve to be included, it’ll become clear quick

This is an article written about it. Seems like it has less to do with titles as it does finishes in the top 6 (avg) in the conference. The titles just so happen to be there. The article is from 2015 so the data is 9 years short (8 seasons).

The Southeastern Conference Big Six: Who Is Historically the Best?

quote:

Overall 1964-Present (July 2015)
First, there's the period as a whole. From the time the run began until right now. The average finish for each school is as follows:

Alabama 3.24
Auburn 4.47
Florida 3.57
Georgia 3.63
LSU 4.53
Tennessee 4.47

Alabama is, as expected, the overall best. Their average finish of 3.24 is pretty impressive. What's even more impressive to me is that none of these six teams are higher than Auburn and Tennessee's 4.47. That just goes to prove how good these six teams have been for the last fifty years.

*see if you can spot a mistake they made.

4.53 is more than 4.47?

The term "big 6" exists because these six teams have won all the SEC championships since the SEC Championship game was created. They've won at least a share of every SEC title in football since 1963 (Ole Miss won it that year). the only time a non-big six team won a share since 1963 was UK in 1976.

It can change once a team outside the big 6 actually wins a conference title in football. Not until then. We're talking about 50 years since a non-big 6 won a share of the SEC and 60 years since they won it outright.

Some have won NC’s over OK in the 20 year span. Perhaps more than one NC over them.

The Big 6 vs the New 6:

Bama vs Texas
Georgia vs Oklahoma
Florida vs Missouri
Tennessee vs SC
Auburn vs Arkansas
LSU vs A&M

These programs aren’t black and white different. Old heads may not like the changes, but the SEC has done a fine job adding quality programs compared to the B10.

Ummm…no, respectfully.

UTa doesn’t even belong in the same conversation as Bama. They haven’t even passed LSU or even UGA yet.

Maybe the big 7? OU is close to a blue blood but that likely will change soon.

Texas doesn’t belong.
