Compared to Arnold he looked elite, but that’s setting the bar fairly low.

OU fans said the same thing. He never had to compete for the job, it was handed to him. Whispers out of spring ball and fall camp were Hawkins was the better QB but NIL and politics put Arnold in the drivers seat. I don’t think he will see the field at OU again

He didn’t but their OL welcomed our defenders all night. There wasn’t a pressure they didn’t fold to.
That is why I am willing to give Arnold somewhat of a pass. The game is still too fast for him - common with young QB’s - and that with a porous line is a recipe for disaster.

He was seeing ghosts after the first drive. Tennessee’s d line had him shook.

He’s obviously not ready to play against SEC defenses. It’s a shame too because as what, a sophomore?, he should be more serviceable than what we saw last night.

How was that ridiculous? If you are talking about the play I am thinking of, they grabbed his facemask. Call it roughing or hands to the face or facemask. Either way, you aren’t going to get by with that on the QB.
Officiating was pretty good IMO but not sure how in the heck they overturned Hawkin’s TD. It looked to me that at least a part of the ball was in the white when he first touched the ground. Certainly not a call that could be overturned. Didn’t make a difference though.

He should be a redshirt freshman. They had to burn his redshirt but he played very little last year.

No they didn't. He has looked like that all season. His confidence has completely collapsed in his own head. I don't see how he mentally recovers. Tennessee did the same things every defense we've faced did to that shitshow of an offense and Arnold has never once looked like he was in command or even getting there.

Priority #1 for OU in the offseason should be portal OL

Yep. Better be a financial war-chest assembled and ready to roll after the season for portal OL. It's probably already being discussed.

Just think, they let Dillon Gabriel go so jackson Arnold could start.
How dumb was that move?
And as an OU fan... that is only part of the story.
Dillon Gabriel was second team all conference behind the Heisman runner up his first season...
Then in his second year he was first team all conference in a 14 team conference ahead of Quinn Ewers...
Yet half the fan base spent both years bitching about him. How he was the problem. And they spent all of last year saying that Arnold should have been out there.
There are still people saying that he couldn't have helped the team this year. And that he wouldn't be any better than Arnold.
As an OU fan, I was encouraged by the defense... Was half expecting them to get blown off the ball.
But frankly, the nicest part of the night in retrospect is that the fans were truly welcoming to Josh Heupel... He got a lot of love.
Now of course the same fans who thought Gabriel sucked and Arnold should have been starting will now tell you that OU was "better off" by firing Heupel....and bringing in Riley...although in their next breath they claim Riley ruined the program.
You just have to laugh sometimes.

Unless you’re incredibly athletic (ie can take off running) passing QBs need a lot of work to learn how to be an effective QB rather than just using arm talent to hit an open receiver in HS that’s being covered in a simple defense by kids that will never play at the next level. Having to force him into this role and then bench him before half will screw whatever confidence he still has.

He looked just like Spencer Rattler looked after Caleb Williams had that big 4th down TD run against Texas.

It’s over for Jackson Arnold barring injury . He’s got arm talent but just about everything else he lacks . It’s also not his fault his oc sucks arse. We have to get some offensive continuity going or we will finish with 5 losses .

Hawkins looks legit to me. He got dropped into a terrible situation and handled it reasonably well.
That can happen when a team prepares for a QB and they play a different one.

Does he have arm talent though? That sideways pass that didn’t even get to the receiver tells me otherwise. I don’t think I’ve seen him hit anything further than 14 yards.

Heupel called off the dogs. He went vanilla at halftime and shut it down. The Vols had both their starting tackles out and were trying to protect Nico.
They basically just ran it up the middle and sat on the lead. No outside runs and very few pass plays.

That's the understatement of the year. Thanks for clarifying it.
