I would do a deep dive into his success years vs why he fell off the charts with his recent records. Has he lost his drive, can Arkansas match T Boone's contributions if that was the root of his success? I know UA has a lot of very wealthy boosters but do they have the desire to throw a bunch of money at NIL. They like names on buildings not the typical anonymity of the NIL. The Walton's with the money are old. They might not give two shits about football.

His brother, Cale, does a radio show 3 times a week in Oklahoma.

Cale was a player and / or coach longer than anyone else ever at Oklahoma.

He said on Monday that Mike has received quite a few offers, but so far nothing that he's really interested in. Mike has been watching a lot of college football and getting new ideas. He and Cale speak almost every day.

Cale did say that if Mike gets another HC job, and asks Cale to come coach with him, then he will.

Both of them have homes at Lake Eufaula in eastern Oklahoma, only 75 miles from Fayetteville, AR.

I think Cale's son is currently an assistant on the OSU staff.

Why would any school want a coach who hates NIL in this day and age?

I agree. I actually liked Gundy. He and Mike Leach were fun to watch, and great coaches. He did a lot at Okie State. They were definitely someone you didn’t want to play.

His mullet would fit great in the SEC

Mike Gundy makes appearance promoting Oklahoma State hockey ahead of Bedlam

Story by Scott Wright, The Oklahoman • 2 hours ago

STILLWATER — Nearly two months after being fired as the football coach, Mike Gundy made his first public comments about Oklahoma State — but it’s not what you might’ve expected.

Gundy recorded a video that was posted to social media Tuesday promoting the upcoming Bedlam club hockey matchup.

“Oklahoma State fans, I’m hearing we’re a hockey school now. How ‘bout that?” Gundy said to open the 28-second video posted by the OSU hockey team’s social media pages.

The video was primarily promoting the Bedlam game, set for Feb. 28 at the BOK Center in Tulsa. The Bedlam game will begin at 4 p.m., with a Tulsa Oilers game to follow at 7:30.

“You guys better get your tickets right now to Bedlam,” Gundy said. “I need to come see that myself. I’m excited. I like me some hockey.

I would guess most coaches hate NIL and just deal with it as a necessary evil.

You would think a school could take that off the table with a GM or underling handling NIL.

The issue is that he wants to recruit players that want to come play for him, and that he thinks he can develop into somebody who can help him win a bunch of games, especially beating OU - not someone that some GM or underling just threw a bunch of money at.

I don't know that he can't adapt. Maybe he can. But I'm pretty sure he really doesn't want to.

*shrug* It's part of the game. The good coaches integrate it into part of their style of player recruitment, development and management. The not-so-good ones, or good-but-don't-want-to-change ones, get fired.

Eventually, there will be a generation of coaches who only know how to coach in this world. It's the way of things.

Gundy didn't forget how to coach. Had a fall out with some of the cigars at Okie Light, but he can win.

I think that loss of control is exactly what old school coaches hate about NIL and the portal. How do you threaten guys w/ benchings or pulling their scholarships when some dumbass booster at another program will snap them up?

IDK if that all applies to Gundy, but I think we know it applied to some others.

Seems like earlier someone posted that he was selling his house in Stillwater ….. but that could have been fake news…….

He was trying to do that before he got fired. He and his wife are empty nesters now.

People throw his name out because it's the only one they know. He was not the only OKST booster.

Pickens donated money for facilities, and he was dead before NIL. He died in 2019.

Gundy made a career out of identifying and developing players in his system. He shunned NIL and became somewhat complacent. It unraveled when his 7th-year QB fell flat, and he had simply run his course in Stillwater.

I hope he does the TV thing as he would be great as a studio guy.

Gundy has been like kryptonite for good QBs for several years now. He also feuded with his own higher ups. His personality is actually a problem. I really don't think he's a very appealing candidate.
