Cam was unstoppable in his season at auburn. He was more than just a short yardage runner. When Bama shut the read option down in the first half of the Iron Bowl he won the game with his arm. He was a generational player. Watson is very good but he ain't Cam. May God forgive me for this post.

Cam was an unbelievable running threat, moreso than Watson. When it was 3rd and 4 or less, you knew the QB draw was coming and it was almost unstoppable. I think Watson is a better passer at this stage than Cam was, though. Watson can drop a pass in on a dime, and he has incredible touch when he needs to. Cam's passes are all rockets, and while that displays unbelievable arm strength he often lacks the touch to float an easy catch in to the WR, even now.

I can agree with that. It would be interesting to see what Watson could do if he had Cam's size/build. That was, and still is, Cam's greatest asset. Not only was he able to be a punishing runner that was nearly impossible to stop, his physicality allowed him to escape situations where other QBs would get sacked - allowing him to extend the play and either run it or fling it downfield.

If Watson was able to physically manhandle people and continue to throw like he does, then there would be a strong argument for him being better. For now, they are both extremely talented quarterbacks each with their own strengths. Cam is older, has accomplished more. Watson is younger, could accomplish just as much over the next year or two.

Cam is a better runner because he is just as fast, just as elusive, and a lot stronger and more powerful. Watson was more consistently accurate over the course of an entire season, but Cam's accuracy could be just as good in certain individual games

This is pretty much it. I see Cam as being stronger and more difficult to tackle while I see Watson as having a little more finesse/elusiveness.

The problem is that nobody seems to be able to judge Cam, Tebow, Peyton etc on their college careers because of their NFL careers. Of the 3 Tebow was better in college and had much more success. And so was Danny Wuerffel for you Florida fans.

In fairness to Watson, he put up 40 points and lost against an Alabama defense which was head and shoulders better than Oregon's defense, to which Cam only had to score 20.

There's no way I can compare these two without being biased, but I think Watson is better than college Cam. He's more accurate. Cam was more or less unstoppable on getting 6 yards out of that read option, but Watson is more explosive and can throw pinpoint passes on the run.

But recognizing my bias, what are some thoughts by people who neither love nor hate Cam?

Cam also only played 1 year in the SEC. I would have liked to see how another season would have went with the 2011 defenses the SEC had. On top having a year of game tape and an offseason of gameplanning with the Cam highlights rolling 247 in everyone's football facilities.

People are gonna give Cam credit for the NFL which is irrelevant in terms of how they do in college.

Watson is unquestionably a more accurate passer and much more of a threat to run. Again in college.

Cam Newton is one of the GOAT college quarterbacks.. Watson is great(best in the game right now) but Cam is on another level!! The fricker single-handedly won Auburn the title that year...

Cam left a path of destruction through SEC defenses that year... Anyone think Clemson and Watson would have done the same thing are seriously delusional..

Cam was down 24-0, should have been 31-0 but Ingram fumbled and it was a touchback for Auburn. Watson has never let his team get down like that.

It may be Cam. Some people may be influenced by his NFL success, which isn't relevant to the question. But I know I am influenced by Cam being from auburn and our recent struggle with Watson.

Cam would have beaten Alabama on Monday (from AU days). He was just that dominant and confident in his ability to take advantage of inferior athletes on the other side.

I like Watson a lot, but Cam just has physical tools he doesn't have. The only thing I can compare it to was the confidence the Falcons briefly had during the height of the Vick days, when we knew that Vick could take off on 4 QB runs and get to the redzone. Ignore that he might do something idiotic and has no business in a discussion of leaders, but my point is that AU fans knew Cam would rise to whatever level was necessary to get a game in hand.

He's largely done that this season in the NFL, will be interested to see if it'll work against elite competition in the playoffs.

Regardless, I enjoy watching Watson play.

Again, Cam had kodi burns, darvin adams, and terrel zachary at wide reciever. No deep threat and one possession receiver. That is is. And a true freshman runningback that was nothing special without Cam.

I'll wait and see how Watson does next year, as Cam's only sample size is that of his junior year, but had time to develop more than Watson has by playing in JC.

. Are you just making stuff up?

Some stats to help you out.

Newton:
182 QBR. 66.1% completion. 10.2 Yards/Attempt. 30/7 TD to Int
264 rushes. 5.6 y/carry. 20 TD

Watson:
156 QBR. 67.8 % completion. 8.4 Yards/Attempt. 35/13 TD to Int
207 rushes. 5.3 Y/carry. 12 TD

Can you show me where, in those stats, Watson is "unquestionably" better? And how, in those stats, he is "more of a threat to run"?

Thanks. I won't hang around for a response because it won't be any good.

LOL. I know you are trolling but some of you forget how dominate Cam Newton was
Cam had twice as much experience when he played at AU as Watson who is only a sophmore.

Cam was big, strong, fast AND older/more experienced.

Let's see what Watson does this year.
