Excited about Henry?

I think Smith gets overlooked in these types of conversations because he wasn't the physical specimen Bo, Herschel, or Henry are.
But that makes what he accomplished at every level of football even more impressive to me.
Remember, he dominated in college on mediocre FL teams that were reeling from probation.

Derrick Henry greatest RB to ever come out of SEC
Not even close.
Henry is some good and for sure since 2000, Emmitt Smith was the greatest of all time and had a great NFL career.
Not worth arguing over both great, from different era's and Henry's NFL career is far from over.

Florida wanted him to play LB.

I believe that was Bama's original plan as well. Could be wrong but Auburn used it as negative recruiting to get him to turn, likely others did as well.

It’s a little premature to anoint him GOAT, but he’s hustling in that direction with 2-3 more seasons like 2019-2021. I think for peak value, he may already be the best RB to ever come out of the SEC. his last 3 seasons are better the any run of the recent era SEC greats that were RB1 in the league (Emmitt Smith, Terrel Davis, Shaun Alexander)
There’s still a lot of daylight between him and Emmit Smith, an amazing athlete in his own right, in career value though who strung 10 good to great+ seasons together 1991-2001.

Probably true in terms of peak dominance, but Emmitt still has the most yards ever.
Growing up in the shadow of Texas Stadium, I love Emmitt as much as the next guy, but he was the product of a perfect storm. Long, relatively injury-free career, some of the best OLs ever assembled, a passing game that had to be respected, and Daryl Johnston. The league has changed to the point that I doubt his record will ever be broken. Henry's career still has a way to go, but I'd definitely put him up there with Bo and Herschel.

Shaun Alexander was decent

He’s having a really good pro career, he has a chance to surpass Emmitt, but until he does he’s not the best.
Herschel is still the best college back of all time, and had a very good pro career, a lot of people leave out his USFL stats which are still pro stats. Without any shadow of a doubt the most talented player I’ve ever seen.
Bo was a great college back, but doesn’t deserve any mention for pro career.

What does it mean to be the best in a soft NFL?
Bo and Herschel played in an NFL when the defense could DDT you on the field and the ref would pat them on the back.

We are anchoring a bit on his gonzo two seasons of late. His freakish talent is undeniable but "the greatest" title is as much due to circumstance as talent.
For instance:
After 5 seasons in the league - Henry has 5,860 yards and 54 tds
Emmitt Smith during the same stretch - 7,183 yards and 71 tds
Smith went on to play another producing an additional 11 seasons producing another 11,000 yards and 93 TDs.
So definitely early days
Henry's college stats also suffer from Bama depth that kept him on the bench. He is up there for sure though.

Emmitt also had a consistently great O-line to run behind and a QB and WRs/TE to keep defenses from playing solely to defend against the run. Also, that era placed more emphasis on setting up the roster to run first rather than passing it all over the field.
I love Emmitt, but just keeping it real.

In fairness, the Titans run their offense through Henry. He has 50 more attempts already than any other back in the NFL

Titans though didn't know what they had. His first 2-3 seasons they had someone else starting over him.

Time has added to the mystique of Herschel and Bo...no doubt they were great, but is either in the NFL HOF?
What does NFL career have to do with college? Its like saying Brady was a better college QB than Tebow or Newton due to his NFL success.
