What makes you so sure she knows what she's talking about?
Posted on 7/13/17 at 12:19 pm to Evolved Simian
they keep talking about this on the local sports station and I always think "who cares..."

My sources say that Dillon, SC could be in the running as well.

And I need to set up time off work for next year. Besides do you know how long it takes to train a dog to stand still for hours while I paint him...

That's what the SEC does though. They act very interested in other cities to get a better deal locally. They do the same thing with the Baseball Tournament... they ask for bids from cities all over so that Hoover doesn't get complacent. They get the upgrades they want in Hoover by acting like they are very close to moving it to some other city.
I'm not saying it will stay in Hoover, but I'd be shocked if it left Birmingham. Downtown Birmingham was not a viable option a few years ago. The convention center area is way nicer now.
The Hyatt Regency in Hoover is not large enough nowadays. There are only 329 hotel rooms, and the event has outgrown the convention space.
Between the Sheraton and the Westin downtown (which are both connected to each other as well as the Convention Hall and the SEC offices by skybridge) there are 1,051 hotel room and probably 5x or more the convention space. Plus they've added 5-10 new restaurants down there, and TopGolf will be open by next year.
My guess is that it moves down there.

There will be plenty of empty real estate in Oxford this time next year.

It won't be in Hoover because it's going to be at the BJCC, literally across the street from the SEC Headquarters in downtown Birmingham.
This wouldn't be surprising at all. The Hyatt Regencey (Wynfrey) is attached to a dying mall and lost it's restaurant tenant.
I won't be surprised to see the Sheraton or Westin host it.

Wtf? The Galleria is FAR from dying
You say that like it's Eastwood Mall.

The absolute worse place to have that event. SEC Football is about 10th on a list of important sports activities in Dallas. I can see Nashville, but it would get lost in the Sports Pages of cites like Atlanta or Orlando.

Close but not quite. Will be at the Westin.

I could actually get on board with the SEC HQ moving to Chattanooga. Cool city that has really done a helluva job reinventing itself in the past 10 years

Like most retailers nationally, sales for the Galleria have seen a steady downward trend. The owners pumped nearly $100mm into the redevelopment of the Mall nearly 5 yrs ago with the addition of Von Maur & then another $20mm into the Wynfrey which later converted to Hyatt.
While venues like the Summit are showing stable sales figures, the tenant mix at the Summit is considered upscale and fresh compared to the Galleria.
The "Riverchase" brand just isn't a destination like it used to be and probably never will be again. Kinda sad, but times have changed, having a shopping experience is no longer valued by the masses.

I think they choose the Galleria because of parking. Parking downtown at the BJCC is a nightmare at times.

Jmo but I wish it would go to the city of each of the college cities in the conference from that campus. Rotate every year.

As long as it is on the same channel they can have the thing in Timbuktu for all I care.
