Calling the cops for a cottonmouth is very Maumelle.
Dude says it would've been "very fatal" but it's pretty rare for someone to die from a cottonmouth bite. Unless maybe something about being bit on the head would've changed those odds, which I guess is possible.

Blame our litigious society. If a player or coach/staff were bitten trying to remove it, there is almost certainly a lawsuit from the bit person or their insurance company.
I have been amazed at how many practices this summer my youngest has had cut short due to rain and lightning within 10 miles. They heard them in the locker room and don't let them out until their ride gets there if they don't drive themselves. I am not sure how you are supposed to complete a practice this time of year with daily PM t-storms. Kind of silly

I played numerous sports from first grade on up, in the south, and I can't remember us every having to stop a game for lightning.
We did have to leave school early for our away varsity baseball games because none of the fields had lights.
