Auburn was too shitty to beat either of those teams.

Sadly, a win over either one probably gets AU into the real tournament. Multiple 15 loss teams had made it. Committee wasn’t going to make AU the first 16 loss team in. Mississippi schools sent AU to the G5 tourney, “and they liked it.” AU clearly belongs with the G5…Bama fans would have been pissed if our Administration let us accept an NIT invite in today’s environment

An Auburn NIT championship is better than anything Mizzou has ever done in basketball

Then decided to lose at home, to the team that finished tied for 2nd to last in the conference. And to the other Mississippi team that would have tied for 2nd to last, but AU gave them a 5th win so they finished 5-13 instead of 4-14.

But hey, not everyone can make the NCAAT. AU had a good run with original Pearl. Now they can dominate the NIT with Pearl 2.0 and feel good about it.

Let’s unpack this logic.

The best thing we’ve done is a few elite eight runs. Is an Arkansas fan really stupid enough to say an NIT championship is better than that?

Furthermore, Arkansas hasn’t made it past the elite eight since 1995.

So you’re basically saying what Auburn just did is more impressive than anything Arkansas has done since 1995.

I don't get the hate everyone has for the NIT. Sure I would never sit down and watch it the way I do the NCAAT but Texas has won it twice (once back in 1978 when it was far more meaningful) and again in 2019 when it was still pre NIL premadonnas declining but I'd still rather do what Auburn did vs decline/go to some other scrub arse tournament.

Bama fans don’t care enough about basketball to get angry about anything.

Your slimy coach breaks every NCAA rule and you just take it. He even cheats on his wife with a staffer and you take it.

The only time you care about basketball is while the game is on and once it ends - you go back to muttering something about spring football.

Details regarding “relationship” with a staff member?

That is dangerous if you look at the analytics. In general, putting the peen into the vagene of a staff member gets you into big trouble.

Does Alabama not have a University policy about this type of thing?

Facts. Missouri has never even made a final four. They do have a winless conference season though.

The new Crown tournament pretty much instantly surpassed the NIT, largely thanks to the $300,000 NIL payout to the winner and considerably higher viewership. This is also why the Crown is all major programs and the NIT is mostly scrubs.

2025 NIT title game viewers 508,000
2025 Crown title game viewers 822,000

Yes, they do .... and Byrne completely disregarded it and gave Oats an extension.

I'm pretty happy with it. Better than a 2nd round loss in the NCAAt, IMO

Said no respectable basketball program ever. Oh how the “mighty” have fallen

The last time Tulsa won the NIT, it was with a blowout championship game win over Bama.

We weren’t going to get past the first round in the NCAA even if we made it. We just needed to play ball and work some things out. I thought it was really good for the team and for miniPearl specifically. He got into a few pissing matches with players this year trying to establish a different “culture”, as a first-year coach would do, and I felt like they learned way more about each other than if they had lost in the 1st round. Who knows if SP will ultimately succeed long term, but I think everybody learned a lot and we’ll be the better for it come next season.
