Charlotte is about 75% larger than Atlanta but metro Charlotte is about 40% the size of Atlanta. That’s the difference between a city and a town. People live IN a town ( Charlotte) while people live AROUND a city ( Atlanta). The city limits of Atlanta is mostly places of business while Charlotte is neighborhoods. People do not live in offices and hospitals and industrial parks. They live near them. Charlotte is a town, Atlanta is a city.

This is dumb. 2.7M people live in the Charlotte metro area. That’s a city by any definition.

Even using your stupid criteria, Charlotte has expansive suburbs in every direction at this point. There also are definitely neighborhoods within Atlanta proper. There are even residential neighborhoods in Manhattan.

There are all kinds of neighborhoods in Atlanta proper. I don't know where you are going here.

Atlanta is the economic driver of your state. So much of what has helped Georgia grow beyond being yet another poor, rural backwater state is due to Atlanta pushing forward from its past.

Yep.

I love how suburbia loves to shite on the city that was the reason they became what they are. Of course, those burbs are just going to become what they claim to hate soon enough, and then you will keep trying to flee to some promised land that doesn’t exist. I wonder how many peeps on here talking about “good neighbors” realize they are likely the neighbor that does absolutely nothing that helps their local community and only interactions with their neighbors occurs through the HOA

Crime in Atlanta is highly exaggerated. If you wander around in less desirable areas in the middle of the night you might have a problem. If you don’t you will be fine

Atlanta is a great place to live and work if you’re not saddled with irrational fears and you enjoy having a plethora of opportunities in work and leisure activities. If you’re scared of your own shadow and feel you need to be armed to get a Blizzard at the DQ Atlanta will no doubt be overwhelming for you….if you’re normal though most likely you’d like the choices and opportunities offered

I can't help but notice that YOU choose not to live in Atlanta.

I can't help but notice that Steelerbravesdog chooses not to live in Atlanta, he keeps using is sister-in-law as an example.

Crime is only part of the picture. It's like most big cities.

Crime, traffic, liberalism, horrible public schools, no middle class, you either live in section 8 or a $700k+ small but trendy house in a trendy neighborhood, etc etc.

That was actually the reason for UGA building Sanford Stadium in the ‘20s because they were sick of playing Tech in Atlanta every year.

1927 UGA team was pretty much the undisputed #1 team in CFB heading in to
the GT game

quote:

However, Tech answered back in 1927. Georgia, in 1927, was nicknamed the Dream and Wonder team. The Dawgs were undefeated, and if they handled Tech, they would become National Champions.

That Georgia team was known especially for its speed on the field. It just so happened that Tech’s field was a complete mess, and many Georgia people claim that Tech made the field so wet and messy that it would give Tech an advantage. Tech won 12-0.

The game had been played in Atlanta every year since 1900. Georgia was so upset by Tech’s actions in 1927 that it built Sanford Stadium

When you have to say you can actually walk in a place without getting robbed, it’s a shithole.

Atlanta is now and has been since reconstruction the economic engine of the south.

I will let William Tecumseh Sherman have the last word. He burned Atlanta to the ground. He torched Columbia, SC. He spared Charleston from devastation though. Charleston was the opening salvo of the Civil War, yet it was spared from the torch.

Atlanta is, and shall remain, a contradiction. A city of its size not founded on a reliable source of water. Have mercy.

Gee that sounds wonderful !! But where is Atlanta ranked as far as homicides now ? When I lived there, in Lawrenceville actually, it was always close to or led cities like Chicago and Detroit in murders. And always seeing DeKalb and Fulton counties on Cops on TV. Not sure where it ranks presently since I got my arse out of there.

My kid will be graduating in the spring from Tech. All I know is that choosing Tech has been a slam dunk. Ga is ok but so glad she chose the better school.
