When GT traveled to Oxford this year for the Ole Miss games it was supposedly the first time they had ever traveled to Mississippi . First off is that true? There was also discussion about Tech not traveling much when in the SEC because traveling to Atlanta was more logistically easy than traveling to Knoxville for example. I can’t imagine other schools tolerating that but there seems to be some validity to it. Anyone know for certain?

I find it funny when people who live in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Carolina, etc. call Atlanta a shithole.

Atlanta is fricking awesome and has the best suburbs in the country.

Back in the Paleozoic era, lots of teams would play in Atlanta because it was easily accessible by train and most schools didn’t have their own “large” football facilities.

That was actually the reason for UGA building Sanford Stadium in the ‘20s because they were sick of playing Tech in Atlanta every year.

neighborhoods that I listed are majority white, right?

Well there it is… my comments have nothing to do with the demographics of those area, I’m well area of what they are. Outside of the general unsafeness those ares are also shite holes because of the world views of the people that live there.

The original comment was made by a UGA fan. It has stayed inside their house ever since so...

At one time Ga Tech was one of Auburn’s chief SEC rivals. Then they pussied out and left the SEC. Now they’re irrelevant on the college football landscape. As OP said, they have no one to blame but themselves.

None of those other than Atlanta are cities. They’re towns. Towns are more comfortable for rural folks who suffer from irrational fears stemming from a lack of experience.

Only looked through the 30s but Tech averaged about one “road” game a year back then….and most of those weren’t on Campus anywhere. A lot of seasons they never left Atlanta. The early years of CFB are amazing….

Are you talking about murder? Because the “cities” you’re referring too seem to have an alarming rate of those, and I for one do have a fear of being murdered.

Beat their arse. Any charter member who chooses to leave the SEC should be exiled to Siberia.

Relative to the population Atlanta and the metro area is as safe as anyplace in the south. If you aren’t involved in crime in Atlanta you’re far safer than you’d be in the rural south. The data is abundantly available but just living and breathing is enough for anyone not saddled with irrational fears

This is true for the most part.

Atlanta is still prone to property crimes(car break-ins, etc.) but that's most big cities.

That sign is compelling proof that Tech graduates, being many things, most of which are reprehensible, are also welfare recipients. Everyone involved with NASA is. Tech brags about it. Sad….

The only city in there that is of comparable size to Atlanta and fits your argument is Charlotte.

You're underwater here.

I was just making sure you weren't eqauting it to race.

And just b/c someone has different world views than you and they live in a certain neighborhood/city doesn't make that place an automatic shithole.

And I can tell you haven't been to the neighborhoods I listed above b/c you still refer to them as unsafe when they are the opposite.

You're coming off as a closed-minded, 70,+ yr.old boomer.

Atlanta is a shithole. You can try to spin it anyway you’d like and defend it until the end. Just because you enjoy drinking IPAs on the beltway doesn’t make Atlanta not a shithole.
