ATL is great for single young professionals. It has a huge airport with many non-stop flights to anywhere in the world. It's a good place to host large events. Other than that, it's useless. I can't imagine wanting to live in the city limits as a married family with children.

I can't disagree here.
Also it's great for married couples who don't/can't have kids, like my sister and BIL.

Well this is just untrue.

I'm 42.
And you didn't deny it FWIW.
Served my country in OIF from '03-04 in West Baghdad so I've seen shitholes, and Atlanta ain't it.

Greenville, Charlotte, Charleston all way better than Atlanta
Charlotte traffic can be rough sometimes but Atlanta interstate during 2-6 p.m. rush hour is a nightmare!

Atlanta is a HUGE shithole, and NOLA is too. Atlanta is a stain upon our great state. I would like to see it burn to the ground again.

The holt hit and lack of any repercussion were really the start of it. They should have just had Holt killed to even the score and they would still be in the SEC. Pussies

I've always wondered how much of GT leaving the conference was actually due to the bad blood between Dodd and Bryant over the Darwin Holt hit against Chick Graning back in '61.
Interesting article written on AL.com about it, never have seen this before:
Here's the article

The Holt-Graning affair also damaged the friendship between Bryant and Dodd, and led indirectly to Georgia Tech leaving the SEC at the end of the 1963 season. The Crimson Tide and Yellow Jackets played through 1964, but wouldn’t meet again until 1979, by which time Dodd had long since retired.

Charlotte is a town, not a city. Atlanta traffic sucks but pretty typical of traffic in major cities in the US.

When GT traveled to Oxford this year for the Ole Miss games it was supposedly the first time they had ever traveled to Mississippi . First off is that true? There was also discussion about Tech not traveling much when in the SEC because traveling to Atlanta was more logistically easy than traveling to Knoxville for example. I can’t imagine other schools tolerating that but there seems to be some validity to it. Anyone know for certain?
Nobody wanted to play them in MS. Even UK only played in MS 4x between 1944 and 1961. The rest were in KY or in Memphis. Even LSU, who played Miss 48x between 1902 and 1964, only played in MS 9x, and 3 of those were in Jackson. Alabama, after starting off with three straight in MS (1907, 09, and 10), between 1912 and 1964, played Miss 15x - never in the state of MS. Auburn, prior to 1964 only played Miss 6x, never once entering MS.
Check this website out, if you haven't already. It's very informative.

sheds a lot of light on what scheduling was like during our SEC years. Nobody played them in Oxford back then. We played them twice (once in Atlanta, once in the Sugar Bowl). Alabama played them three times during the same timespan (never in MS). Georgia played them four times during those same 31 season (never in MS). LSU played them 29 times during that timespan. Three of those games were in Oxford. And that didn’t start til the 50s. We played Notre Dame 10 times during those years, six of those were in South Bend.

Atlanta is a great place to live and work if you’re not saddled with irrational fears and you enjoy having a plethora of opportunities in work and leisure activities. If you’re scared of your own shadow and feel you need to be armed to get a Blizzard at the DQ Atlanta will no doubt be overwhelming for you….if you’re normal though most likely you’d like the choices and opportunities offered

Bobby Dodd was a self important asshat.

Fwiw every Tech fan that i know hates that Dodd pulled us out of the SEC, not sure if hecreally cared about the 140 rule or if it was ego or what. Regardless all the people involved are gone and dead and we’re stuck in our own personal hell playing Duke and WF etc for eternity.

GT would've been no better than Vanderbilt had they stayed. Conference affiliation has little to do with their woes. They're a school that thinks language courses should have a math angle.
