Athens sucks after dark if you're an opposing fan quite honestly. Nothing but sidewalk UGA fans wanting to get into fights. The bars are all dirty college bars for the most part as well. It's extremely overrated in my opinion. The campus at Alabama was way too crowded too. People were almost on top of each other trying to tailgate. Just because it's "on campus" doesn't mean better tailgating.

Man, I'm so jealous of other SEC schools scheduling games out west. State, Arkansas, and LSU have all done it.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss has home and homes with Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and Purdue. Yay.

Yes, it does.

I always thought Marshall had a nice cozy looking stadium

Someone is jealous. Athens is the #1 college town in the entire country. Not just my opinion. Poll after poll has said that. There is nothing sucky or dirty about our town, campus or bars unless you count the drunken yahoo SC fans who wander around after games with their mouths wide open with awe looking at what we have that they don’t. Trust me - no one wants to go to Columbia. If I weren’t a loyal Dawgs fan I’d never set foot inside that dump of a stadium or that ugly town

The Sun Bowl looks like a Div II stadium that somehow survived a wildfire twenty miles outside of Bakersfield.
Wut? They literally had to carve out part of a mountain to fit the place in that location. And it’s not D2, but it’s not exactly P5. I’m not sure what you’re expecting.

My apologies for being OT, but saw THIS while Googling bad stadiums. Anyone know/remember WTF Aggies are doing here?

I've been to Williams Brice and Brian Dennehy stadiums, more than once on the latter.
On campus matters to the experience. This isn't even debatable.
That said, the Vols shite stain of a stadium is so bad that, even though it's on campus, I'd rather go the Columbia, SC.
(Charleston is a good bonus, also.)

My guess is that it’s another of their weirdo traditions

If you were on the Quad sure it's crowded but you have to reserve your spot so it wont get overcrowded, but you can tailgate almost anywhere on this map including the Engineering Quad.
Plenty of room.

That’s a feature, not a problem.

I am shocked that a college town at night after a football game is filled with fans of that school. I’m also shocked there are college bars everywhere.
Have you attended a game in Columbia as an opposing fan?

I like the Yale Bowl

I have. Way too many. Not a great experience. Crappy stadium and a boring town filled with Gomer Pyle like fans.

I enjoy the way you call Athens a city and Columbia a town, cutie

And a cemetery on the South Gate.
