The upshot of why Alabama football is doomed in the new NIL model - number of billionaires living in each state:
Alabama - 0
Ohio - 7
Georgia - 18
Texas - 73
Florida - 78
California - 186

And this won't increase parity. It just means a handful of schools will dominate even more.

Rough guess/sketch of alumni money as of today:
Tier 1: Texas, USC, Ohio St, Texas A&M
Tier 2: Michigan, Georgia, Miami, Oregon
Tier 3: Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, LSU, Notre Dame
Tier 4: Florida, FSU, Ole Miss, Washington, Penn St

Not on the list? You're now a feeder school.

Auburn is doing just fine. Rich people living in your state doesn’t mean they are involved with your cfb program…

The State of Alabama has a billionaire in Jimmy Rane, and another close in Harbert. Problem for UA is they both are Auburn boosters.

Some of that is overblown.

Auburn is recruiting very well despite shitty seasons and the same amount of billionaires in our state.

I would assume most billionaires aren’t boosters that are super interested in football.

Todd Graves is a billionaire apparently

quote:

Louisiana's richest person is Todd Graves, the founder of Raising Cane's, according to the newly released Bloomberg Billionaire Index.

Driving the news: Graves has a net worth of $7.6 billion, which is up $52.5 million so far this year, according to Bloomberg.

Louisiana has Matt Stuller billionaire. Think he is more ULL. Also has the Raising Canes owner. Think he is more LSU. He is a billionaire. That puts 3 in La.

It is. The majority of these kids aren't making obscene money, it's about the same as it was before when everything was under the table.

That's why you're not seeing non traditional schools recruiting in the top 10 consistently.

The market is already correcting itself and changes are coming soon.

Alabama just doesn't have the advantage of having tGOAT any longer, and despite their history, they have no advantage over any other elite program.

Billionaires aren’t funding NIL. It’s more about who has the most rabid fanbase with people that are willing to donate their money.

Alabama will have that just fine.

Bama fans should be worried because they hired an outsider with no SEC experience or ties and he’s doing a piss poor job of communicating with current players and current recruits.

Why would living in the state matter?

Billionaire alums don’t always settle back in the state they went to school.

Stupid stat that doesn’t mean anything in regards to Bama’s NIL

Untrue. Billionaires run national or multinational businesses and few but Phil Knight seem too interested in regional sports or NIL.
Mizzou had two SOBs (sons of billionaires) starting on their BBall team in the last 25 years and look at our team now. Got a decent arena though.

I think it's a bit misleading. You don't need billionaires to support your NIL stuff, but you do need a handful of rich guys who are willing to continually pour money into it. And it needs to be organized. Alabama will eventually get their money guys moved in that direction, but that was not the focus under Saban. We were able to get "discounts" as some have said and it wasn't an essential element to our operation. Rich donors were giving money to the NIL, they were giving it for facilities and other stuff Saban directed them to give it to. So while other schools already went through their figuring it out phase, Alabama is going to be doing that now - which puts them at a disadvantage.

It's going to take Alabama a bit to turn the giant ship. And they're going to be behind because of it. And even once they get everyone going in the right direction they still won't be at the top of the heap, but they won't be in the scraps, either.
