Discuss ---- I personally think he is spot on.
Al.com Scarbo Column

At the moment, it's not about college. Or football. If it ever was. It's about one fan base pointing the finger at another, and the second fan base pointing back. It's the Iron Bowl rivalry, not of Bo Jackson and Cornelius Bennett, but of Eric Ramsey and Gene Jelks.

It's not a game of offense, defense and special teams. It's a game of gotcha.

Didn't we just spend the last nine months immersed in the worst scandal in the history of college sports at Penn State? Do we really have this big an appetite for self-destruction?

The SEC hasn't been able to match Jerry Sandusky for depravity or his superiors for blind and possibly criminal loyalty -- at least not yet -- but the league seems determined to make up for it in the sheer volume of rumor, innuendo and conspiracy theory.

The truth is, it feels like some people in this state don't believe in the old Cold War doctrine of mutually assured destruction.
Emmert wasn't talking about this state last month when he condemned "an athletic culture that went horribly awry." He was talking about Penn State. Penn State may have been the worst of it, but misplaced priorities on behalf of a scoreboard didn't start or end there.
They never seem to end here. Even before the season begins.

He is right. The Southwest Conference got into this game and it didn't end well.

1. He's a poor man's finebaum.

2. It's no different than it was in 99. Teams and boosters/fans from other schools were digging and even the SEC Commish had no problem looking the other way when other schools were bidding on Means and setting up Bama for a fall by not giving them the same info on him.

3. You've just got other teams getting looked at by other fans now. When you have fanatics and low lifes from one base doing crap like Op Red Dog, it's not hard to see retaliation from like minded folks. NtY and all that pure football stuff.

He is right but there are Auburn and Bama losers that are so consumed with what the other school is doing that it wont end anytime soon esp since we are in the tech era. Its never been easier to spread rumors and lies and ppl run with bec they feel it validates thier suspicions.

There are ppl that will get more joy out of thier rivals fsilures than thier own teams successes...and that is sad.

Part of the problem is the writer's own profession, jumping on every little morsel of innuendo whether it's truthful or not in order to have something to write about because a lot of sports "writers" today are hacks who couldn't tell you the difference in a 4-3, 3-4, or 3-3-5.

The media is self-serving in this respect. They want to bitch about the degeneration of offseason discussion when they're the ones producing the shitty discussion and giving the reports validity.

This. He's usually one of the main "journalists", running with innuendo and rumors. He's a hack.

It's just funny you throw all Auburn stuff out there. I'd think an objective post would use Operation Red Dog along with an example like the "Auburn cheating Megathread" or whatever that 1000+ post thread was called on Tidefans. That's why you get the rep you have on here.

Oh, please. This is message board echo chamber stuff. It isn't schools or fan bases pointing the finger at each other, it's simply a very, very small number of anonymous idiots encouraged by hack Internet bloggers trying to make a name for themselves.

You don't even have to leave the message boards to get away from it! You simply have to not click those threads. Scarbo can't stop clicking those threads because he might miss a scoop or rumor that he'll need to either report or tut-tut about. Allin can't stop clicking those threads because he (and he isn't alone) has some sort of compulsion to defend his team against every half-baked charge made here, no matter how stupid the charge or the one making the charge.

You and Scarbo do it to yourselves, so spare me the false weariness and appeal to some bygone era that never really was. I

Again, I said like minded fanatics doing the same in retaliation. Defend em if you want. Doesn't matter. You won't see me defending the Tidfan bunch or atpb crowd.

The media regurgitates crap they read from various message boards. Sports radio hacks do the exact same thing.

99% of the time the journalists and sports radio hosts get their topics of discussion from message boards. They sit on their asses and surf the web to find out every little tid bit they can. They are lazy and couldn't actually research anything if they had to.
