it's been going on a lot longer than that(50+ years) but the web has developed an easier outlet for everyone to get involved, not just administration and higher up boosters
Oh absolutely, but it seems that the last 5 years have been particularly bad. And there is a lot of truth to the whole "blame the internet" thing...it is so easy for rumors to spread, they can be started anonymously and they are damn hard to kill .

This on so many levels. I remember he was one of the guys having meetings with Jeffery Lee on the Brent Calloway situation. Scab is a stirs the pot more than anyone. There was an article a few years back that he wrote trying to get AU fans worked up about how BDS was explanding but JHS wasn't. If he finds an ember he'll blow on it trying to start a bonfire.

Places like this are part of the problem. The hack sports writers write their garbage for you, along with all the other college football forums. All the bullshite that gets discussed on here and other sites... and then you wonder why Finebaum and others do what they do?.. really?
You may not feel that you are involved in this, but when you follow college football players on that Twitter shite, yeah, you are in too deep.

In the eyes of so many, Auburn isn't supposed to recruit on the level with Alabama or LSU, isn't supposed to win championships. It's a great mystery where that idea originates. History says the opposite.
Gene Chizik arrived as head coach in December 2008 vowing that Auburn would go after the best players in the state and beyond and vowed he and Auburn would not back down. He hasn't and Auburn hasn't. It's safe to say there are those with agendas of their own who don't like that.
Get em Phil!!

He is right. The Southwest Conference got into this game and it didn't end well.
Remind me again who the ringleader was behind that...and why we have finally left the SWC for good.

A writers job is to get readers.
Back in the day, the way that happened was a writer would build a good reputation for quality work adn ppl would follow his or her coloumns.
Today, writers get readers by glam and rumor. They discovered that ppl are too stupid to realize quality journalism so they write about crap and sensationalize it to make it seem credible.
Since there is no accountability in the journalism industry, there is no penalty. If a writer gets fired from a publication, they start a blog and sell advertisement.
The only way for good journalism to return is for ppl to recognize crap and not read it. It will take time, but eventually editors will be forced to hold their writers accountable...but like I said, ppl are too stupid.
